Hey guys I am the new guy to the forum with a few questions. I recently bought a crew cab 2wd that I have big plans for but as I have started to dive in I am running into more and more rust. I was wondering if anyone had any leads on a rust free cab. I know long shot but I have looked and haven't had much luck.:whymewhyme: I know long shot, I am located in oregon but would be willing to do a road trip if the right cab came around. I will try to post up some pictures to show you guys what I am up against.

thanks, It is gonna be quite the project. So far I have removed the front clip and have the bed ready to come off but I need a few more bodies to lift it off these old trucks were made out of real steel.

Here's a couple of pictures the one is how it looked when I got it and the other is right after I scrubbed the moss and grime off of it. It was to bad that a portion of the truck was only being held together by the moss that it was covered in.

If you can't find a replacement cab, it may be easier to just have remanufactured patch panels welded in place of the rusted bits.

That's what my plan is right now I have the front off and am working on removing everythung that goes into the cab so I can see how much rust I am truly up against. The most dissapointing part of the whole deal is the rear driver side door is completely rusted out on the bottom and the post that separates the small portion of the window is rotted out. I think I am gonna have to find a new door for that, but it is really hard to find one around here.

I got the bed off completely now and all my doors removed. I have a question for you guys that I figured I would ask here before making another thread, I am wanting to do a cummins swap but I am trying to figure out where to source parts from. I am keeping an eye out for a whole truck with low miles but they are few and far between or really expensive. I have been looking into aftermarket transmissions but they want 1,000 bucks for a core, so do you guys wait to find a broken tranny or pay the extra for a core?

Might get lucky and get a busted core from craigslist. As for doors, i have a set of rear doors. But shipping would be pushing $200. There has to be a part out truck in your area somewhere

I have been watching craigslist almost everyday trying to find a parts truck but no luck, I was hoping to find a beat up one in 4 wheel drive so I could kill two birds with one stone. On a bright note I am in the process of buying a cummins for my motor swap. sometimes I don't know why I entertain these crazy ideas.

I might have to take you up on those doors.

I believe surburban doors fit the crewcabs as well, but not 100% on that.

I was under the impression that the doors changed after 76 because it was the last year that power windows wasn't offered. If someone could shed some light on that it would be appreciated cause then I could just use suburban parts which as the blind chicken has shown are plentiful.

The difference is in the interior stamping, they fit and look the same on the outside. '77 and later doors take the full style interior door panels.
