Alright fellers. Not sure what happened. Old age probably. But the dome light won’t light up an incandescent bulb and emits very low light on an LED. The socket measures out a 12.5ish volts but my resistance is high when tested with the wiring unplugged from fuse panel and tested agains known ground.
The light is dim when the headlight switch is used and/or the door is opened. Under dash light is bright as the sun! Think I should run wires from switch to the plug behind the seat ? Or run new wires all the way down to the fuse panel? Do we think wires? Socket contacts look pretty clean.

I'm having the same problem on my 84. I put a voltmeter on mine but can't remember my readings, I'll have to do it again.

You can have the voltage but the amps aren't high enough.
I'd check all ground connections first.

I believe my door jamb switch is my issue as it's slightly broken, and that would be the ground circuit. So possibly check your door jamb switches for damage or wear.

I had to run new wires under the kick plate to get my dome light working. I could not see a break in the wire, but running a new one fixed it. It takes a beating in that area, so maybe the wire broke internally without breaking the insulation.

You know I was figuring it shares a ground with the underdash light. Rent the grounds the door jamb switches?
I’ll measure at the plug too ( behind the seat) and see what I get.

Back in action. The WHOLE harness was corroded in the orange water. From the dome light all the way until the kick panel. I replaced it up into the dash area by the fuse panel. Soldered and heat shrank for longevity.

This is the harness I snagged from the parts yard. If anyone needs or wants this cargo lamp switch I’d let it go for shipping costs. It’ll get lost in my place. I’ll include its harness. It is like a splice in harness so even if you don’t have a cargo lamp it plugs into the dome lamp connector and Ts off to the dome and the cargo.
mught be to much of a hassle or it might be exactly what someone wants.

I don't have much use, but imho, the switch and harness are a nice little find.

Do you still have the cargo switch and harness? I'd like to add a cargo light to my truck.
Thanks,
