got a donor cab, 78
And nothing goes perfect right?
I have some rust on the firewall
Some under the windshield and some tear that doesn’t seem factory to me on the driver A pillar.
The plan is to cut the section of the firewall out including the AC junk.
The donor cab doesn’t have the vents on the dash and I don’t want to chase them down.
I’m going to weld on the section from the original cab (73) that has all the heat only parts.
Also going to swap over the metal dash cage seeing as how my original is in better condition.
And I need to pull it out to repair that A pillar anyhow
Here’s some pics
I’ll keep updating with progress / setbacks

Ok so this shows the windshield rot no worries there

But I am curious about this corner
And guesses what happened here?
Just hammer it back and weld it or cut it and put some fresh steel there?

Drilled some holes through the spot welds
Got a better look at that fold
Still looks like a factory accident to me but who knows

Folded it back in
Put a bit of primer on it after this pic
But I still need to wire wheel the wall and primer it

Sanded the firewall and now I have a better view
Anyone have an idea of how to tackle this?
It’s rusted on the wall just cut it out and drill the spot welds replace the section and re weld the spots?

@legopnuematic has a really good build thread that shows what to do with firewall rust. And many other rusty spots, lol.

Perfect thanks
That is a super common spot for rust.

You’d think the seam sealer would keep it off there

Hey I was thinking about threading down some SS
Maybe expanded metal or just sheets in general.
That way that area is protected and if I need in just zip off the bolts?

The reason why that area rusts is due to the seam sealer separating from the metal and then when it rains the water pools in the seam and the sealer can hold in the moisture, since it never sees daylight it never really can dry out. Added that the seam sealer was applied before paint so it is bare metal doesn't help rust either.

Chu think here?
Rust convert or cut more

I just don’t wanna try and replicate that curve
