Figured I would throw my javelin up here if anyone is interested in seeing it. It's a work in progress but is coming along slowly. Currently a 304 car but in the process of getting my 401 together for it. Should have it done by spring if everything goes even close to as planned.
Here it is when I found it.

Thanks man it's a cool project but had I done some research ahead of time and realized amc parts were as expensive as they are I probably would have gone a different route but it should be fun when it's done.

Are there many places to get parts from? That Kennedy American place is local to me. I've never dealt with them, as I've never messed with anything AMC other than some Wagoneers and a few other Jeeps, but those don't really count.

Cool car. My buddy had one in high school. Put 12:1 slugs in it, then a 3000 stall converter. It sure would burn a tire! His was red with a white side stripe.

Thanks guys. There's a decent amount of backing in the engine performance department it's just all 2-3 times the cost of something like sbc. The 390 and 401s had forged crank and rods from the factory but for good measure I'm putting in Molnar forged h beam rods. It will probably be 30 over but haven't got block to the machine shop yet but once I do I will have custom forged pistons made. I have edelbrock performer rpm aluminum heads and edelbrock rpm air gap intake and a lunati voodoo cam. All parts are brand new sitting in the shop awaiting the block to get done. Going to set it around 10.5:1 which should net me around a streetable 400-450 horsepower and car should weigh 3000-3200 with driver. I have considered dropping my compression and torqstorm makes a low boost supercharger kit but haven't quite decided if the $2800 is worth it although 600+ horse does sound fun.

I bet the reason it's higher priced is because those engines are not as common as the SBC and when a guy wants to rebuild one or hop one up he's most likely willing to pay a little extra to do so in an effort to keep his AMC original/numbers matching. Just a theory of mine that makes sense in my head, at least :)

Yeah that makes sense. Had I known the prices going in I may have just put a sbc in as for the money I'll have in this one amc I could have put a decent engine in it and my truck

The cool thing is that once done you'll have something pretty unique :)

That’s so cool! I’d love to see more of this. AMXs and Javelins are really desirable cars for me, and I’d definitely like to get into one someday. Good to know that AMC parts are so expensive. I figured they would be, but if I ever get one, I’ll just do something else to begin with. Unless, of course, I feel like spending the money, and it’ll be worthwhile in the end.

Thanks I will try to keep this updated as progress occurs but it will more than likely be quite slow
