I have a 700 r4 in my 86 K10. Im wondering from a dead Stop how many times I should feel it shift?
1-2,2-3,3-4, lock up
never thought about it, does it only lock up in 4th?
If it's stock, yes.
my stock on in the truck locks up in 3rd but you get the point
performance built ones usually don't lock in 3rd, think it has something to do with over powering the clutch while racing/towing and burning them up.
Interesting. I had a stock one in the 'burb and it only locked in 4th. I sometimes wished it would lock in third, probably when I was towing something. I wonder if it's a year thing where some did and some didn't.
Ok im pretty lost what do you mean by It locks? if tranny is working correctly from a dead stop would I feel 3 shifts from 700r4?
There is kind of a half-shift when the converter clutch locks. You'll sense a slight change in RPM which sort of seems like a shift, but it is not a gear change.
I do believe my trucks only shifting twice after tranny rebuild, maybe cable needs adjusted.
How does manual shifting compare to leaving it in drive?
TV cable is critical to the function of a 700R4. Unfortunately my experience is only with stock systems. Does it have all the right brackets and the correct cable?
There is a lot of discussion about it here:
It might be worth a read.
Im gonna end up taking it to someone who knows these transmissions. My truck isn't here but I thing even manually it was only shifting twice.
Later yeara gm started to allow lockup in 3rd. Manually should feel shift 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 when going through 1,2,D,O. And then when lockup engages will feel like another shift.
