i am looking at putting a vss in my 205

i have seen a few poeple have done it useing a reluctor ring and speed sensor from a 241.

the reluctor ring needs to be thinned out to match the width of the speedo gear. and the sensor needs a flat spot milled out and then drilled and tapped.

any ideas or thoughts

You can get one that screws in place of the speedo cable, then the cable screws into the vss. You have the CB coax type speedo cable, right? And which truck is this for?

Ahhhh...I see. Thought you were talkin TBI.
There is an inline that is a 4 pole if you cant find the reluctor ring type for your 205.

Do you just need the VSS for the trans control? The inline sensors work fine and let you keep your cable speedo cluster. Or are you going with the electric speedo?

i am not sure what all it is needed for tranny control speedo and so on.

i just got a nice dash cluster out of a 91 suburban so i will have a electric speedo if i pull this vss swap off.

i would like not to use an aftermarket inline vss. i want to try and use off the shelf gm parts as much as possable. that way i can go to almost any parts house in the country and get replacement parts should i ever break down away from home.

and it will be as close to the correct vss as i can get for my set up. 40 pulse per driveline rev

it seems like a pretty simple install for the vss and i know its possable just need to get it together.

a stock vss for a 90-92 TPI Camaro might work, it is a 4000ppm sensor, uses a gear instead of a reluctor ring, and is held in by the same 10mm bolt and hold down clip.

why not use a 241 case? the 88-91's had the ps drop and vss.

I must correct you friend.

1990-91 Suburban/Blazer/Jimmy used the 241C with VSS.

1991 V3500s used the 205 with VSS.

i have already had my 400 205 adapter machined to fit the 4l80 got the call today its done. so i have the 205 ready to go on the 4l80

and there is no way i would use a 241 over a 205 unless the 241 is all i had

1 ton crew cab with 35'' tires would be hard on a 241

thanks for the camaro info but i want to try to run the correct vss not just make something work. thats my reason for wanting to stay with the 205 vss install. it will ad a hurtle in my build but it will simplify alot later on having the correct 40 pulse vss for the drivetrain i'm running.

no prob. retro.

as for a 241 on 35's see the gmt400 guys do it all the time even bigger then 35's.

I don't blame you for using it when the thing is already machined and you have a 205.

are the in line deals pretty expensive? I considered using one on my gmt400 if I can do SAS due to it having electric in dash speedo and maybe running a reg. 208 or 205 t-case with ps drop.
