I've been researching to find out the possibility of swapping the 6 lug rear axle in my K5 with one from a 2000+ truck/SUV.
I want disk brakes and also a good parking brake. These have a drum under the hat of the disk.

I know the axle will be wider, the wheel studs are larger, spring perches and shock mounts will need to be moved.

Calipers are also larger than drum but I'm going to 17" wheels. No concern there.
Also are there 14B versions?

Any feedback would be great.
Pics of someone who has done this would be even better.

Thanks.

There were 14 bolt versions with 6-lug, I think in the SS and VortecMax trucks. They aren't a common sight and they might have all been drum brakes too.

While the parking brakes of those years are better than the old Caddy caliper option, I wouldn't necessarily call them 'good'. But they are adequate for most situations.

I think I read about the ss and vortecmax ones.

Definitely don't want the caddy ones with the ratchet calipers from the 70s. Heard too many issues with them. Also want to stay away from parking brake on the trans.
