Looking at swapping in the 4500 into my 85 soon. I pulled a good 2 piece shaft/ carrier bearing/x-member out of a 90 burb.

My intention is to leave the rear end alone- put the burbs rear shaft in and locate the carrier bearing support wherever it ends up (front to rear). Then, adjust the x-member height and shorten the front burb shaft to connect the two.

However, in trying to mock it up under the truck, it's not going to be that easy, of course!
There's **** in the way on the frame where the x-member needs to go. I think it's due to the saddle tanks that the burb doesn't have.

Anybody got any pics of a two-shaft setup or can tell me what you know? I'm thinking I might be better off just fabbing a new x-member. I'm going to pull the bed off to do this, thinking it will be easier in the long run.

I've got a 2 shaft setup in a K30, but it's a crew cab. I also have regular cab C30 frame that had a two-piece shaft. If needed, I can investigate tomorrow.

Thanks bucket. I appreciate it. Did you convert the standard cab to a one piece?

The C30 frame just had the carrier bearing mounted to the cab mount crossmember:

Which is interesting, because my '79 K30 crew cab doesn't even have a cab mount crossmember, it just has a couple mount brackets. The carrier bearing has it's own crossmember, it's mounted right between the tank brackets and the cab mount brackets:

Thank you Bucket. This gives me lots to chew on.

I'm uh gonna print these pics out and spend some time on the creeper tomorrow.
If I recall, I have a big x-member under there and I "think" that's where the cab mounts are. Stay tuned.
