Hi guys, I really need yalls help on this one. I own a 1987 R10 and we did a serpentine swap off a 1989 suburban r1500. Everything went on smooth, but after installing the PS pulley, we noticed that it was crooked. Were afraid that it will chew through belts, and we already checked the bolts, they are good. Any help or advice is welcomed. Thanks.

in that case, definitely find a new bracket. any special provision like AC or space-saving you have? If not, get a mid-mount alternator bracket for serp alternator, im sure jegs or summit have a long list. I can imagine on a serpentine the sideways or off-center pressure is gonna be more noticed than a thin v belt. especially with high tension

Somehow you have it bolted wrong. Either a spacer is missing or maybe there should be a stud with a nut in the middle between 2 parts.

Pictures would help.

I was assuming he bent the bracket, but perhaps he is right and its not ALIGNED? Good thinking turbo, that could mean spending no money

I have a 2008 GMC 2500 that eats belts because the PS pulley is too far back. I'm simply gonna unbolt it, shim behind it, and bolt it back down. But until then I will just keep feeding it belts every 5-10k miles because I'm lazy and I don't give a **** about that truck lol.

Even if that's not the RIGHT way to do it, it will still work. It should be the same with your truck. Find out which bracket is out of alignment and either put washers behind it or grind it down until it lines up right. Not a super hard fix, just look closely and you should see which pulley is the offender. This basically only works with a serp belt. Wait till it rips off one of the ribs, it will look too far back on all the pulleys (like the front rib is missing) except ONE of them will be flush up against the front and it will look too far forwards (one open rib on the back), or vice versa. That's how I determined it was my PS pulley on the '08

was it good on burban?
is it late serp/vbelt that you put serp on, or is it regular old v belt only?
im just trying to think of reasons your accessories on new vehicle would be aligned any different than burban for any reason, such as having two different belt widths or having a different setup, etc

My truck HAD multi belt, burb had late serp. I'm gonna look over it with a flashlight and try to see anything obvious.

Good thinking, i think it might just be spacers. it looks like my truck bracket got bent from the lack of using the right bolt which lacked a flange under the hex

I love that the very first post in this thread says "we already checked the bolts, they are fine" :happy175:
