How much work is it to replace 1986 steering column? Can it be done in one day as this is my daily driver?

Too many questions...
Are you putting an '86 back into your '86?
Tilt or not?

Others will chime in I'm sure. I've changed mine twice before and rebuilt it twice. It's tilt. Did it in half a day and a 12-pack.

The locking pawl attached to the key cylinder may be the culprit but first, I would look at the slop in the shifter linkage. Eliminate that slop first.

If you already bought a new column complete and ready to go, it’s a pretty easy job; a few bolts and couple wiring harnesses. The steering wheel is the more difficult bit.

If you want to keep the ignition lock you already have, then it’s more complicated.

I would just go for a new tumbler. The doors dont match the key and you can get copies for cheap and easy
