I bought n drove an 88 crewcab dually 4x4 about 300 miles home yesterday. The truck has no rust, 130,000 miles and was one owner. the grandpa passed away and they decided to sell his truck. It has every factory option I would choose. 454, SM465, np205, Dana 60 front, Dana 70hd dually rear, crewcab, ac truck, dual battery, tilt column, manual windows n locks. Has a flat bed with a winch crane and two locking compartments. The big block purrs like a kitten. First time I’ve drove a 454 and the low end is amazing lol. The drive wasn’t bad, steering is loose and needs rebuilt, plus it needs new leafs n shocks, has the death wobble when stopping so brakes need rotors n calipers possibly wheel bearings n king pins. Had to replace a some hoses and belts to make it home but wasn’t a big deal. Leaks power steering fluid about 1 quart every 100 miles. Needs some work for sure but way too nice to pass up. Haven’t got a name for it yet. Plans are to make it the main tow pig

Looking over the title n paper work... I’m pretty sure the truck is a 1984 not a 1988. Not sure how I missed that lol

'88 would have been fuel injected. It's very similar to my early production '85. The '85's ran '84 emissions until 1/1/85. Your headlight bezels are a give away too.

Look on the air cleaner it should have the year at the bottom right of the emissions label. I thought it was odd on my truck that GM recommended 89 octane or higher on this engine even though the compression is only 7.9:1.

thanks for the info. I will check the air cleaner in the morning. I just assumed it was tbi when the previous owner said it was an 88. I will check for a carburetor to be sure. Probably should have looked under the air cleaner before driving it 300 miles but for $1500 I was getting the truck home no matter what

Yep 1984 with Federal emissions. The E in VIN confirms '84. I noticed GM recommends 89 octane or higher for your engine too.

I'd be interested to see the sticker to the left of this one to see what if any equipment is different between my California emissions and your federal. I can already tell you don't have an EGR based on the sticker and your block off plate.

I never would have noticed the 89 octane if you hadn’t said something. The gas stations around here sale 87 or 91 octane. This truck came from Wyoming. Here’s a pic of the other sticker

You don't have a charcoal canister either. Although these trucks have a lot of hoses, not having those 2 items really cleans it up a bit.

Two other differences I saw, is my truck has the tall air cleaner lid and it used to have this noise reducer attached to the lower housing. I promptly removed that.

Nice truck. I'm looking for a 4 door with either a SRW or DRW.
I would have jumped on that too for $1500

Thanks. I can’t pass up a good 4x4 1 ton. I have 3 dually trucks with Dana 60 front axles, 1 cab chassis n 2 crewcabs. Found some paper work in the truck today showing new long block and externals in 1992 with 47,xxx miles on the odometer. Currently showing 33,xxx miles. You guys think the truck has 133,xxx or 233,xxx miles

I think 133,XXX. The body and interior are too clean to have and extra 100K on them. My truck has always been in California and was not driven for 10 years prior to my ownership. It had 142K on it when I go it.

I agree the truck seems too clean for that high of mileage. But I thought a new long block 454 at 47k miles sounded weird
