1982 Suburban tilt steering wheel problem

The steering column in the old beast has a lot of up and down flop in it. Would like to cure this problem, but not sure what parts to order. Any help would be appreciated. And thanks for the tips on the heater problem. Finally solved it by replacing the control panel. Your site is a wealth of information.

Sounds like the bolts are coming loose inside the column. This is a common problem.
I had to do the same on my 82 K5.
Here is a video from a 93 Chevy as an example:

You can borrow the pulling tools from Autozone or similar.

I did this a couple weeks ago. Just watch out for the little ball bearings coming out from the retaining rings. Turned my job into a lot of f-bombs and a few extra beers afterwards.
