What non 73/87 parts have you swapped into your squarebody?

Had no idea! Just has the one mirror though lol... The K30 had big Ford towing mirrors on it too.

What non 73/87 parts have you swapped into your squarebody?

Not a lot but there was some “massaging” it into fitment. It’s a Doorman kit for 99-07 Silverados. I had to drill two holes on the bed side because the mounts are different sizes: one for the lower bolt and one for the alignment pin. I also had to take off the tail light plastics to get a nut...

What non 73/87 parts have you swapped into your squarebody?

The ones I know of in my well used and slightly abused ‘79... 85 C30 454 03 E350 trans cooler 98 Windstar electric fans 99-07 Chevy tailgate hinges ?? square body bench seat, power window door panels (and manual regulators lol) ?? 168t used chev dual pattern flex plate from local trans shop ...

    Appraise my truck

I’m in the rust belt but I’m a cheap ass impulse buyer. That looks like a very nice truck but I wouldn’t buy it unless it was under $5000 because it would be “too nice to pass up” at that price. I’d expect to see an $8500 asking price here in SW Ohio as it sits. Maybe $1000 more if it had a...

    Fuel gauge stuck on full

My K30’s gauge would only read correct with the send wire connected and the ground disconnected. If you connected the ground it showed over full until it dropped to about 3/4 by the time it was empty. This was true with the old original(?) tank and the new tank and sender. Maybe the senders had...

    what,s a safe boost on a mid 90.s 454

I too wanted to boost a low compression 454 for not a lot of money. But I agree with CoggedBelt75 that the 871 is the right choice if you really want to use the blower on the big block. Devil’s advocate: Why not drop in a cheap low mile small block and put the 671 on that? Sell the big block to...

    First engine swap: ‘85 454 into ‘79 C10

I guess all that can be said is that the truck is being used for truck things. It makes my son giggle when I burp the gas pedal and makes me laugh when I floor it (driving solo.) Several upgrades, updates and whatnot have happened. I’ll try to summarize them here. I’ve put in that Spectra...

    Stumble under Acceleration

Sounds like a fueling issue if it’s not a tuning issue. Clogged filter, dying pump, or clogged pickup sock on the sender are my top three guesses. Does it sputter when it’s cold? If it only does it when hot then it may be a vapor lock issue related to the creative fuel line work you described.

    Hard Start - SOLVED

This thread was a wake up call for me. My truck has been hard starting since I swapped the leaking carb for a rebuilt one. Went out this morning and gave the distributor a small clockwise twist. All of a sudden the hard starts were gone! As a bonus I found one plug wire was loose and eliminated...

What is your daily if not square body?

I’ll look into the interchangeability in the next day or two. I know there were differences between the J30 submodels but I don’t know if they were all THAT different. If it fits, I want it. Sent you a PM in that regard a moment ago.

What is your daily if not square body?

Well shoot, I’m gonna have to buy that. I’ll send you a PM here in a minute. I remember driving up I75 one sunny day years ago and a guy with a new at the time (‘09ish) Camaro with the 300 hp V6 kept trying to take me for almost a hundred miles. I walked away from him every single time in a...

How much? I’ve been waiting for years to hear someone say that LOL!

What is your daily if not square body?

I’m probably an odd duck on here for daily driving a 2007 Honda Accord. It’s the unicorn V6 6 speed MT 4 door. Had it for almost a decade at this point and put about 130k on the odometer. It put a lot of sports cars to shame (especially those cocky ass pre-coyote Mustang drivers) while getting a...

    Working over a motor

I’d settle for a mild truck or RV cam based on that last sentence. They can still sound great with the right exhaust note and give plenty of torque down low. Problem with a more aggressive cam is that you’re sacrificing low end and mid band torque for high end power which is not what I’d want...

    Removing Screws From Aluminum Frame

Penetrating oil and wax are both wicked up into the threads by capillary action. I’ve sworn by PB Blaster, heat, and patience for over a decade when dealing with rusty hardware. Recently bought my first can of Aerokroil and truly feel it’s in a league of its own. Beyond that I don’t have much...

    C10 with a BBC 496

I see where your head is at but I’m not sure it’d be worth the trouble. Even if the bbc weighs 150 lbs more, that’s only 75 lbs per spring per side. Might throw the stance off by an inch? I wouldn’t worry about it unless you’re going to be doing some hardcore off roading.

    C10 with a BBC 496

What year truck? My ‘79 C10 didn’t seem to mind swapping to a 454. Does your truck have an inline six or sbc in it now? Just have a friend or family member sit on the hood or stand on the front bumper to approximate the extra weight of the big block. Much easier than test fitting the block in...

Absolutely. It’ll be even quicker and much safer. Not to mention checked over professionally.

    Two fuel issues

More amazingly, the shop says the head/gasket wasn’t the issue! Had a weeping hose run me low on coolant. Not sure about the cause of the frothy coolant but I’ve never been so happy to be wrong lol! Guy also said he had a big ten back in the day and got mine tuned up beyond what I’d done. I...

    Two fuel issues

Yeah, I love the fact I can fix anything at home. Problem is that I don’t always have time. I caved and took it to a really good local shop for the head issue. Good news is that replacing the faulty check valve and actually connecting the vacuum line to the correct orifice on the carb seemed...

    Two fuel issues

Well f- me. I just checked the coolant on a hunch... it's white and frothy. That was the engine trying to hydro lock after all... I believe I've got a bad head gasket pressurizing the cooling system. Really hope it's not a cracked head! The irony is that it doesn't miss or anything. Ugh...

    Two fuel issues

I put on the carb, line, and spacers. It runs better than ever, my idle is under control, and it restarts when hot. Massive score! Seems like my fuel system is finally just about dialed in... Then I lost power brakes pulling out of my driveway for the first test drive. It never ends, does it?

    Two fuel issues

To reiterate, my truck seems to flood quickly at shutoff and idles a bit high. Symptoms have occurred and seem worse when it's hot and but have even occurred when it's cold after a 3/4 mile drive to Autozone. I can't think of any direct cause for these symptoms besides having dirt between the...
