    Cowl Hood

We knew this was going to be tight, but finding that a stock hood leaves no room for the large air cleaner we need for this build. We want to use an 8" tall element to let the 632 breathe, and when mocking up the stock hood, only have about 2" of room at the front of the air cleaner. I am not...

    Rear Step Bumper Availability

I've looked everywhere I can think of and cannot find a replacement step bumper for my 84 build. Seems it's been discontinued, as I can only find the sport style rear bumper. Suggestions welcome!

    Fuel System Advice

I've tried this with FB pages and am getting very different suggestions. I am running a carb'd 632 in my 84 K10. I want to run the stock dual tank setup with in tank pumps and of course a switching valve. The questions I would appreciate your feedback on: Are the stock size lines (3/8 feed...

    84 K10 Tie Rod

Strangely having a heckuva time getting a tie rod setup to work on this truck. I tried the heavy duty ORD tie rod, and I can't get close to full steer without diff cover contact. I do have the Ruff Stuff diff cover which is a bit thicker than stock, but its very clear the ORD rod is too thick...

    AMD Patch Metal for Sale

I have a bunch of new AMD patch panels. I found a very clean cab and no longer need to rebuild mine. I have for both sides: floor pans, cab corners, inner/outer rockers, and the rear cab "skirt." Would save a bunch on freight if it were picked up. Located near Sioux Falls, SD. Or I could...

Low Hump to High Hump Conversion

I found a super clean 86 low hump cab that I'm going to buy. I have an 84 high hump that I was going to cut out and splice into the 86 cab. Other posts suggest the floors may not match up. Anyone done this on the later, non-removable humps? If so, how difficult was it? I still think its...

    ORD Traction Bars

Hoping someone else has installed these. Per instructions, I broke leaf spring pack down to one leaf, inserted spacer and mocked up rear axle to the frame. ORD says to cycle the suspension to find the least travel in mounting location. That part doesn't make sense to me. I would think the...

    WTB TCase Crossmember

I need a transfer case frame cross member for a TH400/NP205 for my '84. I am using the tall figure 8 transfer case pedestal. Thank you

D44 longer Wheel Stud P/N needed

I don't think the stock length D44 9/16-18 studs (2") will be long enough for aftermarket aluminum rims. I'm looking for verification of a part number that someone has actually used. Here's what I think may work: Dorman 610-278 - 2.625"OAL, .62" knurl Dorman 610-419 - 2.58" OAL, .619 knurl...

    Need gear pattern feedback

Setting up my first diff, front D44 on this build. First pattern, (not pictured) showed contact angled across the root and coast side was centered. I removed pinion depth shims because that pattern suggested pinion was too deep. Now I am having a really hard time making a drive side pattern...

    427 Tall Deck

Disassembled and checked out by local machine shop. Also have the crank. Would make a nice platform for a 496 build. Going a different route on my build. Asking $500

    Pinion Depth Tricks

Rebuilding a D44 front. Upon disassembly there was no shim stack behind the inner pinion bearing race. Other anomalies suggest to me it wasn't assembled correctly anyway. I did not run a pattern (probably should have) prior to disassembly. I'd like to measure pinion depth, but don't want to...

    4L80E Rebuild Recommendation

Looking for ideas on a rebuild shop for a high HP application 4l80e. Targeting 700hp. I have spoken to Jakes Transmisssions. Had a good conversation but wondering if anyone has experience with them, or other builders out there. Thanks.

    Spring Lift Ride Question

On my son's 84 swb k10 build, we are going with a 6" Tuff Country spring lift. He's convinced the rear springs are going to be too stiff and wants to remove a leaf. I've cautioned against that, as we don't have it installed and fully weighted, and the number of leafs isn't necessarily going to...

    Floor Stress Cracks

Sorry these pics don't show the crack in the overall space well. Found them in the floor, in the right rear corner of driver's floor pan, up on the hump to floor pan connection. Symetrical crack on passenger side. Is this a common fatigue point? If not, what the heck would have caused this?

    Trans/Transfer Case Combo Opinions Needed

Targeting 700hp in a 496. Pretty sure I want a 4l80e for OD and can be built to handle that power. Looks like the NP241c is a unicorn and not likely to find. What do you guys think of 205 vs. 208 for this combo? 4.11 gears with 35 or 37" tires. Some trail and rock crawling, otherwise just...

    Fool me once…..

So I dropped off my axles to have the tubes welded and center section plugs filled. I specified TIG because it wanted it to look clean. I sent it to a young fella trying to get his fab business up and running. Mechanical engineer by trade, good guy. This is what I got back. It looks so...

    Pinion Angle

Anyone know the stock pinion angle on a K10 swb? I could see the spring perches had been replaced on the 14 bolt we picked up. Leveled the axle on jack stands and checked the angle. Seemed very steep to me. We removed spring perches cause they were roached out, and are going to use this as...

    Axle housing plugs

Cleaning up a 14 bolt and Dana 44. Both center sections were leaking through tube plugs. Looks like someone attempted to weld them. They look like garbage so going to have them cleaned up and Tigged. None of the welds fully penetrated or filled the plug hole.

    SWB/Lift/Driveline Considerations

For context, my son and I have started rebuilding the chassis on his 84 K10. We are swapping to 14 bolt FF and Dana 44HD axles. We are debating 4" vs. 6" lift and trying to understand how much is too much for driveshaft vibration and overall stress. Powertrain will be 496 mated to a 4l80E, so...

Need 8 lug Dana 44 Wheel Hub

Help, I cannot find replacement hubs anywhere. So far I've checked a handful of specialty driveline companies (East Coast Gear, Dennys, Ruff Stuff, etc.), as well as Rock Auto. No one carries the hubs. Any suggestions? It seems they've been discontinued but that seems odd. Thanks in advance.

    Help on Dana 44 sub-model

Rebuilding a junkyard snag front diff. 8-lug Dana 44. Went to order parts and was not prepared to answer questions on sub-model. For example, Denny's Driveline website has sub options such as 44-6F, 44-5F, 44-5 HDF, etc. The axle tube BOM is not readable so just trying to narrow this down...

    Best Cleaning Option

Disassembling a 14 bolt SF and there is a lot of residue and some flaky rust in the axle tubes and center section. What's the best way to clean this out? I was thinking a hot tank but not sure if there are any near me large enough for a complete differential assembly.

    700r4/NP208 and TH400 Compatibility

My son picked up a 700/208 combo and a some other parts he needed for his 84 swb project for $100. With our goal of a 496BB we know the 700 isn't the ultimate trans option, going to use a built th400. My question, though, is this specific np208 able to be mated to a th400? I am thinking the...

    TH400/NP208 Combo

Been struggling to find this combo in any u-pull yards. Throwing this out there to see if there is something reasonably close in the Midwest. Willing to do some driving to get it. Thanks.
