Hahaha never seen one naked I suppose…

    Is this worth it

The market for someone with $6-7k and the desire and talent to make that ugly ass truck into something nice is really small. Maybe worth it in the rust belt. But too many nice trucks out here to give that truck near that much value unless your beergoogles and mullet are stronger than your...

    My 87 Blazer is Possessed.

Idk, similar issue with a newer Ford. Bad alt diode was causing cam sensor coaxes and ran like schitt. You’ve pretty definitively narrowed it to the alt. Try another new one, imo.

    Body and frame welding needed

Agree, find some bed sides if the floor and wheel wells are cherry and you get them cheap. Otherwise find a new bed. Not hard around hear like other places.

Holy ****! Someone picked up a die grinder after way too many beers….

    Montana Jimmy

I wish…. But my boy is playing Junior hockey again this year in Helena. Every time I visit I don’t wanna leave.

Nice! Whoever did yours at least kept the serpentine belt setup. Fwiw like I posted above I have same engine in basically the same truck. Except mines running all the original style accessories including AC, off of v belts.

1988 r30 with newer motor ac problems 7.4 liter

Tell me about it, lol. The engine in our 86 was a low mile pull out straight out of a late GMT400. GenVI engine. Sure would have been nice to have the serpentine belt, newer AC and EFI… I guess the one good part is all the OE controls work easy with a carb including the cruise control.

Looks solid! But that “custom” paint…. What part of Montana you from?

Need advice on how to tackle an issue on my '86 305

No apologies needed. I have parts never needed and not returned sitting around due to doing the same thing sometimes. Only reason I mentioned it. Good news it’s not cobbled together, that helps. I was kinda assuming it was because in my limited experience it’s more common to pull a vacuum in...

Need advice on how to tackle an issue on my '86 305

I admire the enthusiasm but fwiw, I’d have diagnosed the problem before buying new parts. You haven’t said whether your 86 is plumbed up all as original or if it has any combination of fuel pumps, lines vents etc.

    Ambulance Vans!

I think the only 4wd vans, even that era, were Quigley’s. I’d never seen one in person but we had a few of them up on the North Slope. All were Quigley’s.

Haha you said the same thing at the same time! Hope we’re both not wrong lol.

Try driving it with no fuel cap or loose cap.

82 k20 front leaf spring question

What @legopnuematic said. Any old truck that’s hung a plow for any length of time on original old springs is not going to sit higher than stock. It looks leveled in that pic. IE a 2” or so lift.

Best idea for support for painting truck bed?

Buy a tape measure or guess. The frame can’t be wider than 4’. Pick a length.

    Fluid film / paint

That appears the same or similar to the GM “wax” coating. I bet it’s good stuff. Cosmoline has been around forever. They also make the rattle can version in black color like fluid film. And knowing what I know now compared to when I left the rust belt 30 years ago I’d definitely have an arsenal...

    Fluid film / paint

Zep industrial degreaser in the gallon jug works great too. I usually have some full strength in a spray bottle and some diluted in a garden sprayer. I use it equally between cleaning goopy old cars and cleaning the shop floors.

What have you done to your square lately??

Well not pic worthy but I “fixed” the off n on headlight on the ‘77. Always good when it’s simple but now I have to return a new headlight, lol. The side with the apparent short would come back on if you thumped the headlight bulb….for a while. Assumed old bulb something loose. Esp since this...

    Paint Schemes

Your hunch is probably correct, and I actually revised my post above acknowledging those kind of challenges. When I did the blue truck it was the first complete paint job I’d done in 20 years and only the 4th ever and first 2 tone. Everything else has been a dent repair or smaller parts/panels...

    Orange Peel Trouble

I think flow coat is relatively new terminology (but I’m ignorant to a lot of autobody stuff, not in the business). Agreed on the wait times. However when you paint as bad as me. Knocking down the orange peel when it’s softer saves a bit of time. Ideally knock it down a day or 2 after spraying...

    Paint Schemes

I understand that part. No tape lines/ridges in the clear coat. But IMO much less labor intensive to base the stripe, prep stripe for clear (scuff), tape off the stripe, base coat the vehicle and clear both colors before the main base coat cures. Same order even if doing the vehicle in pieces...

    Bad alternator bearings

I hadn’t replaced an alternator/starter etc in the last 25-30 years on anything until a couple in the last 5 years. I got 3 bad alternators in a row, out of the box, from Napa a few years ago. Next one that went out was different vehicle but original low miles. I opted to have that one...
