    th350 overhaul direct/forward clutch clearance

Using a set of vernier calipers, they seem to be .70 maybe originally they did have 4 and 4 but left that .80-.90 clearance. Not sure if you remember but my direct clutches were pretty smoked and my forwards were down to steels because of the cut piston seal. I’ll look into a set of .90 steels...

    th350 overhaul direct/forward clutch clearance

I have a feeling the forward clutch piston was machined at some point as I had no issues fitting 5 and 5 in along with the wave plate. The direct clutch on the other hand didn’t have a wave plate when I took it apart and 4 frictions, 4 steels came out. When I went to put the new ones in, it...

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

I’ve never seen any atf on the ground under this truck. I’m trying to figure out how it got 5ths low in the first place. I was just asking if you think this torn seal was what caused it to be low and burn up the clutches. I’ve now started the rebuild and am checking clearances on forward and...

i've been following along with @NickTransmissions videos and i'm at the part where i measure clearances for the direct and forward clutches. so far, this is what i've got Direct clutch has 4 frictions, 5 steels. feeler gauge .25 can just fit. pressure plate has 1 indicator mark. (originally...

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

Awesome. I went with a kit from transparts warehouse with all the seals, steels, frictions, bearings etc. and plan on referring to the manual you mentioned for installation. I wound up breaking one of the little detents off the rear planet bearing, that seal from the forward clutch piston was...

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

i've sttarted with your 2 hour teardown and inspection video. one thing of note so far, the governor cover did not have the wire bracket that holds it in place. the cover was still bottomed out to the case though and very secure. no dents, but i did find it odd when i saw the holes for this wire...

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

At least now I know there’s something here. Those first clutches didn’t seem so concerning but WOW these are bare bones. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Was worried I’d get this all torn apart and not find anything wrong to find out it was an issue in the steering column or...

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

Here’s the forward drum after a little cleaning. There’s a gouge I’m not sure I should be concerned with. The rest looks great considering how the clutches look. Also a possible better angle on the piston and would this be the indexing mark on the pressure plate? I’ll be binging your series...

I’ll be getting that manual the minute I sit at the pc! Thank you!

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

Took a few pictures of what I THINK may be the parts you’re asking about. Please let me know if I’m barking up the wrong tree again. One is of the piston. And one I believe is the center support and the low roller clutch? The seals on the piston do still seem rubbery and not hardened or torn...

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

Uhmmm… spose this explains it. Was a long night when I got to tearing this apart and I guess I just tossed this aside. Wow. I’m assuming there shouldn’t be roughly 3/8” in between there?

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

Oh! I was assuming the smoked one was the forward pack. I’ll do some more looking around and check a diagram to see where I should be looking. Very new to all this. Bear with me. XD

If closer pictures of any other parts are needed, just let me know. May have to describe mentioned part in laymen’s terms though.

    Th350 rebuild (lost drive gears)

Made a thread a couple weeks ago about running dry on atf and losing all drive gears. Community said “yank it for overhaul” well, I’ve got it torn apart and I’m not sure where the issue was. I have a couple pictures to share and ask opinions on. One is of all the clutches. The ones up top seemed...

thanks, i've been watching some videos on youtube. some of these guys have complete step by step videos on the th350. i'm fairly certain between the help i've received here and those videos i'll be able to get it sorted. thought it would be much more of a process before watching. big thanks to...

1986 sbc th350 ran dry on ATF :o

I got under it just now. Pulled the line off the vac modulator and its bone dry. Nothing spewed out at me. steel line with roughly 2" rubber pieces at both ends. The rubber piece up top (behind the carb) is like new. The one on the trans (vac modulator) is a bit dry rotted but i'd think for a...

1986 sbc th350 ran dry on ATF :o

Got ya. It does seem like an aftermarket thing. On the passenger side in the back by the firewall in the black box was where I thought the ac condenser was but I’m not incredibly familiar with ac systems. I’ll see where the lines are heading when I get home. On my way now. Appreciate the quick...

1986 sbc th350 ran dry on ATF :o

Update: I topped it off while in neutral and idling. Waited for it to warm up. Put it into reverse, rpm’s dropped. Solid engangement. Reversed a bit to test. Works great. Put it back in neutral. Rpms returned to idling speed. Put it in drive and only the slightest drop of rpm’s. Barely...

1986 sbc th350 ran dry on ATF :o

a few years ago i bought this beauty for my step father who always loved square bodies, but he isn't mechanically inclined. of course i knew i'd be the one keeping it on the road. had a few small issues in the beginning learning about carbs, distributors, timing etc. but finally got her running...

1986 Chevy c10 stalls in gear until warm (even on hot mornings)

I’m not sure, but I was under the impression since I just changed the oil like 3 months prior that the oil would be fine. But it was indeed about 1.5-2 quarts low. When I had the manifold cover off, the rods were spitting oil just fine though so it never occurred to me it was low. I guess when I...

1986 Chevy c10 stalls in gear until warm (even on hot mornings)

Well, I did the vac advance to full vacuum test and brought it back down to 12° initial, tinkered with the idle mixture screws a little to make her clean up a bit also did an oil change. Was quite a bit low. Didn’t realize how much she burned during this process. and wouldn’t ya know the next...

1986 Chevy c10 stalls in gear until warm (even on hot mornings)

Thanks for the vid! That’s exactly what I’m hoping for! If it’s already warm, that’s about how it goes. Except for the priming. If it’s warmed up I can just turn the key and she starts and drives. I’m definitely getting a tach. I wonder if they make one that fits the clock “gauge” in the cluster...
