    Recognize this?

Good reminder. If I need brackets I’ll have to be extra careful since I at least need to rebuild the vent windows.

    Recognize this?

So we are in the same boat. Turns out it was a bracket for the sport mirrors, but we both have dumbo mirrors on our trucks now. So mystery solved and no action needed.

    Recognize this?

Thanks. I was just figuring that out. So I guess that this truck had sport mirrors on it at one point and then a later owner swapped in the dumbo mirrors. When I replace the panels I’ll make sure the dumbo brackets are there. Thanks for the info: you added the last piece of the puzzle. I didn’t...

THANKS!!!! I need to go in and see if that was replaced.

    Recognize this?

I found this inside the driver’s door when I was replacing the window seals on my 1981 C10 Silverado (crank windows, manual locks). There is no rust at all in the door itself and I can see that the doors have older aftermarket interior panels on them so I am not the first person in there. I...

    Door Hinge Spring Replacement

Thanks! Once you get the hang of it, prying it over from the bottom isn’t hard - but I’d be happy to never have to do it again…

    Door Hinge Spring Replacement

I’m pleased to report that the method in the video for the Corvette also worked on my 1981 C10. You don’t have to remove the door or the fender. You just have to drop the spring into position, pry it over from the bottom and tap it up into place. There isn’t a lot of room to work in there so...

    Beginner Alternator Question

I took the old alternator and battery to the local auto parts store and surprisingly both tested out just fine. By luck the guy who helped me was a C10 enthusiast and I had seen his truck at a local show just a couple of weeks ago. He thought the newer 350 sbc crate engine was simply drawing...

New to this: Rear end alignment?

Unfortunately have no idea. I should have used this as a learning experience but wasn’t even thinking of alignment before taking it in and by the time they were done I needed to get going.

New to this: Rear end alignment?

Got it, thanks. Yes, the guys who replaced the tires indicated that the old ones were wearing a bit funny in a way that might indicate an alignment issue.

New to this: Rear end alignment?

I got new tires on my recently acquired 1981 C10 that I know nothing about today and my next step is to take it to a local shop to get the alignment checked and a coolant system flush and fill. So is there such thing as a rear-end alignment? I remember hearing that this is a thing but don’t...

    Beginner Alternator Question

Thanks - I was hoping somebody would respond so I can place the order now. I checked the output just now at the alternator post and verified that the alternator output is low and that it is done for.

    Beginner Alternator Question

When several different people say the same thing, I know to listen. I'm going to do a quick test of the alternator itself after my next meeting - I have to believe it's going to be the alternator and not some sort of new wiring or ground issue. Meanwhile I'll learn how to quickly source a 12si...

    Door Hinge Spring Replacement

Got it, I think. I was having problems visualizing what needs to be done. Turns out at least C3 Corvettes have a similar spring and now I can see how the tool suggested above would work. I think I might be able to do it with a thin pry bar. Here's the basic procedure:

    Door Hinge Spring Replacement

Yeah - I see now that my rollers are binding because of paint overspray. But it was a nice quick fix for me to give the roller a turn and have the door start closing nicely again. I ordered a replacement left-hand spring from LMC and I guess I'm going to find out for myself if it's possible to...

Got it, thanks. I wanted to check alternator output directly but wasn’t sure how. Will check out Summit as well.

    Beginner Alternator Question

I bought a 1981 C10 not too long ago with no real history on it other than it had a crate 350 motor put into it at some point, supposedly 20K miles ago. There's a sticker on the battery that says "5/22", so I'm assuming that's the date of manufacture. The battery died once recently and I...

    Door Hinge Spring Replacement

BTW: while researching this I came across a YouTube video about how to easily fix door pops on a C10. My passenger door did that, and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t work. I’m sure most of you were already aware of this but I sure wasn’t, and always pleasure to come across a free and instant fix:

    Door Hinge Spring Replacement

This is for an '81 - the "spring" is actually an 's'-shaped torsion bar.

Thanks much for that. I did a search but somehow did not find that link. I'll order the spring on the strength of that.
