    question about gmc vs chevy

GMC has always been the shortened moniker for "Gentleman's Chevrolet".

    Just advice please

Here is my opinion based on experience- He is willing to trade for a POS G6, so he is tired of the truck and wants it gone. That truck will never be worth any less; the G6 will never be worth any more. I would do the deal asap and get it home. If not towing, I'd have a follow car and take...

Death wobble, or bad wheel balance?

Just so happens I was at a truck show last week and talking to a guy who had the same issue. He bought a truck with a worn out steering gearbox. He decides he'll adjust it until the slop goes away. He tightened it as much as he could and that's when he noticed the wobble. He swore it was from...

    SWAPPING 84 c10 body onto 84 k10 FRAME

One of our trucks waiting for restoration was originally an 80 K10 currently with an 80C10 cab. The previous owner did a good job. He did have to cut the transmission tunnel and patch in the K10 hump. Not a big deal.

    Power steering gear box

Correct 4wd and 2wd gearboxs differ, and the fitting for your power steering lines may vary.

How would you make this truck less ugly??

I'll repeat what has already been posted. Get some fork blades under the rear bumper and even it out. Booger weld a cheap wheel arch panel in back, grind it and spray it. Last but not least, some 31s over a set of OE rallies. No lift kit, no window tint, no swampers; if you want your truck to...

    Help with 86 K5 Tailgate

Once you have the cover off you can check for binding, misalignment, lack of grease, etc, but you can also unhook the drive cable and attach it to a drill to confirm if you have drive motor issues.

Small Block choices: A feller has too many

The 010 blocks are good starting points. You can always put on whatever sets of heads suit your purpose. I won't suggest any cam (other than maybe a roller) or performance upgrades because everyone has their own preference, but you have some great options.

    Can I put a np203 in my 84’ K10 that originally had the 208?

Yes, a 203 will work. The last three 80s model squarebodies, an 83, and two 85s I have drug home had 203s in them, lol. I don't know why, but that is just what got swapped into them. Grab the matching driveshafts if you can.

    Bubba's Brake Bleeder: A Guide

That simple tip was passed on to me as a young rookie mechanic at a Cadillac dealership. When all the equipment is being used and you are low man on the totem pole, you learn to make do. For what it is worth, I have yet to have an issue with the proportioning valve tripping, but there really...

    Bubba's Brake Bleeder: A Guide

I use a plastic water bottle with a clear plastic tube and that is it. One end of the tube goes onto the bleeder and one end goes inside the bottle. Remove the master cylinder lid, and top off the brake fluid. Open the first bleeder and once you see it gravity bleeding, just pump the pedal a...

    88 suburban 350 rebuild questions.

Without any other infor in this thread, it would depend on what I wanted my Suburban to do. I am an old school guy; I rebuild them as they originally were with better breathing heads and maybe a little hair on the cam and send it. I'd sell the dirt track block and put the money into another one...

    Steering Box Question

Any squarebody gearbox with interchange, except a 4x4 needs one from a 4x4 and a 2WD needs one from a 2wd. I changed out a gearbox not long ago, installing one from a 76 K10 onto an 85K10. The fittings were different, however I was fortunate enough to have the matching pump and lines to swap...

What did we do before cup holders?

These were our cup holders back in the day; 99 cents apiece and by gawd we were thankful.

    Test Drive Etiquette

That disclaimer should be emphasized in person as well, but I'll be honest, anyone that demands they run a driver quality 50 year old Camaro before driving doesn't know the market for 50 year old Camaros. Every single truck I sell has a contract that says "As is with no guarantees". I tell every...

    AM/FM Radio

I saw a webpage a few months ago for a guy on the west side of the country that rebuilds the old radios. You ship them out, pay and wait. He seemed legit but for the price I can just keep putting OEM radios in my trucks and planting a cheapie blue tooth tube on the floor in front of the seat and...

    Transfer Case Issue?

I've experienced the gear jump with several trucks. I'm working on a 79 GMC right now with the same issue. The previous owner let the truck sit outside, never used the floor shifter and it rusted stuck. However, over a few weeks if driving, it would randomly jump out of gear and grind if I...

No crank, no click, out of ideas

After 40 years the fusible link is probably gone covered in lint under someone's garage freezer. Troubleshooting issues like this I start at the battery and work my way from there to the starter, then the fusible link/junction block on the firewall, and towards the fuse box, ignition switch. I...

    Holley Sniper EFI fuel economy

Cold starting would be probably #1, better fuel distribution and simpler tuning with gas mileage down the list a bit. Personally, I still prefer the pump and gun contraption that was mass produced by Rochester. But mods and driving habits are always a factor, ie gearing, tires, your right foot.

Temperature gauge won't move from cold

I believe most manufacturers have eliminated the resistor on the back and now sell an updated gauge with the circuitry inside.

"Overheating" --> Now Fuel Delivery Issue --> Dirty Tank?

For the motor to overheat to the point of stalling the motor, you would smell it, hear it and see evidence of overheating. If the fuel filter is empty immediately after the truck stalls, there is a restriction due to debris, leaks, collapsed line or vapor lock.

Fire out of top of carb

If the engine ran fine before you pulled the carb, then it is pretty certain to be something to do with the carb. Pull it and break it down. It isn't hard to push the float out of adjustment, bind a spring, misalign the needle, etc, or yes, drop something into the intake. Without video or being...
