WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

@bucket @BKING33 since you guys are more well versed with the differences in 10 bolts from year to year. Some sights say the lugs are the give away, some say you can't tell without pulling the cover, some say the 8.5s use ujoint straps the 8.2s use u bolts. I took that rearend out of a 71 or 72...

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

Ohhhh I hate you guys now. Look at this pic and read the words. Most 8.2s have the protrusion on the cover. And this, most 8.5s have the lugs at 5 and 7. I installed this rearend 20 years ago under the impression it was an 8.2. Now I question if it is 8.2 or an 8.5. Dam it is an 8.2 with the...

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

They aren't that rare, just they look almost identical to an 8.2 I haven't looked real hard and have found 2 and kick myself for not jumping on either one. Should be under every 71-72 Cutlass or Skylark and 70-72 Monte and depending on who you are listening to all 71-72 LeMans and 71-72...

    Starter mounting on a 350

Actually post 9 picture 2 is a piece made to fix this. I was just trying to save you money with a last try see if we can make it work like I did mine. In reality if what I did to mine hadn't got me buy I would build another block before I'd spend 200.00 to fix a broken one,but I can build engine.

Rear Gear Install for C10 with TH350

No you don't have to drop the transmission. I'll see if I can get you some pics. Most likely it's a 9 inch but better to check and know for sure. The green one is a 6inch the grey one is a 9inch so now you can picture the difference and see what to measure.

    Please help a non-electrician

@Camar068 long runs aren't even that hard ground 1 end of your wire check resistance at the other end to ground. As for blowing meter fuses, if you make a lead for your meter with a common fuse less than your meter fuse it will pop first and your not trying to find a fuse for a fluke at 6pm on...

Fuel neck filler hose doesn't fit with new tank

If you make bushings to join hoses to existing hoses or tubing to make extensions as I suggested the angle isn't quite right going from the tank to the filler so the extensions are always going to be I a bind, trying to pull out. As well as you've created more places to leak. Moving the tank the...

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

Buick,Olds,Pontiac got them first Chevelles got them in 72. Supposedly some Pontiacs got the 8.5s in 69... 1970,71,72 Montes and 71,72 BOP with 10 bolt should be 8.5 with bolt in axles. Chevelle got 8.5 with c clip axles they say 71,72 . I think it was more like 72 only.

Fuel neck filler hose doesn't fit with new tank

Yep you would have to extend the wires and fuel lines, nbd. If I wanted to make what you have there work I'd get 2 rubber couplers and tubing to make extensions. Bolt a piece of strap across 2 bed reinforcements to bolt the hanger to. If relocating the tank is an option I think that would be...

I got all kinds of responses I've got a rearend out of a Mustang, a Camaro,etc.etc. I don't want to have to fab up anything I want to buy it...

Fuel neck filler hose doesn't fit with new tank

Can the whole bracket with straps be moved back on the frame to make your filler work if you re drill the frame to mount your tank where your filler will work? Check,I just looked under one of my trucks and I think that is an option. We have freezing rain and I'm wearing shorts and barefoot so...

Fuse question (what is this for? Empty on a schematic)

What wire did you ground out? Anyways don't connect it to sender, first check resistance to ground on what you suspect is the correct sender wire, open? Try grounding the wire with a new fuse. Does your gauge work now? I'm thinking someone may have hooked an electric choke wire to temp sender...
