Transmission lengths and transmission humps for 70s trucks + clutch cylinder discussion

I converted my sm465 to hydraulic. But i just needed to change my 465 bell housing and clutch release fork to a later model 83 or newer? Which had the hydraulic slave mount cast on it and it allowed for a 12" clutch. The pedal assembly was a mechanical clutch type. I just redrilled a pushrod...

    Comp Cams Break in

Hi everyone. Just wondered if anyone has a set of these fitted. Or an oppinion? Xtreme Energy™ DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters for GM Applications Diamond like carbon coating on the lifter face of these Comp Cams lifters. In the blurb it says almost eliminates break in. Really?

74 C10 front left disc locked

I had this happen to me on my 76 C20. RH caliper would stick on, I could release it to get me home by cracking the break bleeder on the caliper. Replaced the flex hose to the RH caliper and all was good.

AN fittings need to be drilled?

Hi Bryans If you want AN fitting go to Aircraft Spruce. Real Aviation fittings that dont break the bank, I found them cheaper that most well known automotive shops. But the fittings tend to be blue. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/categories/aircraft_parts/ap/menus/ha/an.html

Throw out bearing sleeve question is there a difference from a two wheel drive to four wheel drive length of sleeve wise

Hi twpeasley983. There are two different ones that I know of one is the HD for 2 ton SM465. with 1.5" dia input shaft. Then there is the SM465 with the smaller input shaft at 1-1/6" dia. Also be aware of the oil way passage in the bearing retainer face that supplies oil to the bearing. Go...

    Cracked frame/shock mounts help

I have this kit on my C20. Works good. Where the cracks on the frame are, drill 1/8" holes at each end on the crack (stops the crack spreading further) then weld up the crack grind it back, paint, and use the offroad design kit. This is good for the rear end. The cracks are caused by the...

Tires Plus says my Dually tires are too heavy to balance.

Worst case. Static balance them yourself. Put an old spindle in a well mounted vice. Mount the wheel and let gravity do its thing. Tape on fishing weights on the inside the wheel rim at the top until the wheel wont spin on its own to another location. Mark where the weights are, take them off...

Leaf Spring Install Advice - Won't line up, shackle angle

Juan Cano, just looking at your completed setup, looking nice for sure. One thing I noticed, please make sure the axle spring purch is sitting flat with your springs. Looks like you need to rotate the axle a bit clockwise (pinion shaft end up a bit), as the axle spring purch doesnt look flat...

Noise in transmission while clutch is engaged sm465

Looking at the sm465 trans, this is the input shaft, the bearing is behind the 4 bolt cover that the clutch release bearing slides on. That cover/retainer only goes on one way as there is an oil way in it to feed the bearing. I agree with prairiedrifter check out GebBuilt on youtube there is a...

    Which clutch!?

Hi Disco. One thing to make sure of before buying your clutch and deciding between the 11" or 12" version, check your bellhousing. Easy to do to know what you can or cant do. This is for the 11" clutch, note there is no big bulge on the bottom of the bellhouse, just nice smooth casting lines...

Small block to big block swap. What do i need to know?

Fastnlow86. I have an 88 454 mkiv in my 76 C20 square chassis. I was going to put an 4l80 behind it but the cost to do that didnt make sense to me. So I rebuilt my SM465 manual trans, and changed the diff gears from 4.11 to 3.42 in my 14 bff. Also im running the stock 800cfm qjet You can tell...

    Priming a New Water Pump?

I put a gm serpentine kit on my 350 v8. All was great until the rear bearing on my alternator cs130 quit. The alternator is a reman in the GM performance 12497698 kit, and the rear bearing is too small in the stock 105A cs130. But that squeal was there all the time and got worse with rpm. I...

    Might have Over-torqued Rod Bolts 250 I6

As marineone said. Remember to get a couple pieces of small hose to fit over the rod bolt threads so you are sure not to nick the crank journal as you replace the bolts out and in. Simple trick to stop some (more) cussing! You arent the first to have over torqued a bolt. Thinking about the...

    Might have Over-torqued Rod Bolts 250 I6

Look at it this way. Do you want to pull the engine again and redo the bottom end if your lucky, if the rod bolts let go it could be rods through the block. Then you need a whole new L6. For the cost of a set of bearing shells and bolts. Replace them now, and know its good.
