    700R4 Vacuum Switch

Thanks for the diagram. I definitely do not have the EGR bleed solenoid. I'm not too bad with these diagrams, but this makes it seem like the TCC solenoid will be on if either the brake is not depressed or the vacuum switch is closed (high vacuum). Working that out, if the vacuum switch is...

    700R4 Vacuum Switch

I've readjusted the TV cable a couple of times, will probably do it again. But it seems like such a stupid adjustment: retract the cable and floor it? Really? For something that important? [I appreciate your help - its just GM's procedure seems stupid.]

    700R4 Vacuum Switch

@scrap--metal comment came at about the right time. I suspect that my transmission is still not locking up. Today I check the vacuum switch and it is working (closes contact at about 10 psi, maybe a little more.) I tried to trace this down to the transmission, but just got frustrated because...

    700R4 Vacuum Switch

I think that I have it hooked up right, but I am still getting pretty bad mileage - 8 - 9, still haven't broken 10 mpg yet. I don't feel the truck shifting into 4th or the lock up kicking in, but I don't have a tach to properly check, just seat of the pants.

Kicking around doing an LS swap

I'm slightly confused - you have a Dakota Digital speedo - don't they take an electronic signal off the transfer case to keep the MPH correct? Or was that switch specifically to tell the computer you were in low gear?

Kicking around doing an LS swap

My last tank got me 9.5 mpg. And I've been driving like a grandpa (sorry to all the grandpa's out there). I'm not looking to win any contests, but I'm hoping for 12 - 14 mpg. I knew mileage was going to be an issue when I bought the truck, but at one point it was down to under 6. I want...

Kicking around doing an LS swap

Target engine is a 5.3, but when the time comes to pull the trigger, it will really depend on what I can source easily. I might even go for the 4.8l LR4, but the 5.3/4l60e combo seems so plentiful that I shouldn't have trouble getting one. The VSS issue is new to me, so I have to do some...

Kicking around doing an LS swap

I'm still in the early planning stages for this, but I think the plan is to source a pull-out engine and trans from a 2004 or so truck/suv. This should give me an LQ4 or LQ9 with a 4l60e transmission which should connect relatively easily to my NP208 transfer case (confirmed 208 and not a 205)...

Kicking around doing an LS swap

Just did a visual confirmation. That's correct and makes sense.

Kicking around doing an LS swap

Thanks - I have to do some digging on my truck. It sound like the speedometer is driven off the transfer case and not the transmission like I thought.

What is this wire / connector

My googling told me it was the neutral safety switch too, but that was for manual trucks. So now for stupid question: If this is the NSS, how come my truck starts just fine? Is this just an extra wire GM left in a common harness? And finally, I thought on the '84, that the NSS was handled...

Kicking around doing an LS swap

I'm trying to figure out if an LS swap would be worth the effort. I have a 1984 K10 with a 350 and 700r4 trans and, I think, an NP205 transfer case. I'm not sure of my rear end gearing. I'm struggling with getting only 8 mpg no matter how I drive. I think an LS swap would give me between 12...

What is this wire / connector

This connector with the yellow / purple wires is located near the bottom of my steering column. "Near" is relative. its under the dash in that general area. I have a 1984 K10 with automatic trans (700r4). Thanks, Bruce. [edited to add picture.]

    Steering Column Refresh Oddities

Fixed. The switch was sitting up higher than it should have been because I missed that the pivot of the switch has a cup that it fits in. I basically went back and re did the switch install and saw the cup sitting in the column

    Steering Column Refresh Oddities

Found the horn honking issue: The brass ring on the back of the cancel cam is hitting the screw that holds the turn signal stalk to the switch. I tried filing the ring down, but that didn't work. Next step is to get a different, thinner screw and a different cancel cam. I'm open to suggestions.

    Overdrive not working

If found this on another forum: The TH700R4 / 4L60 doesn't have a TCM. The test wire should have + voltage when the ignition is on and the TCC brake pedal switch and TCC vacuum switch are passing volts to the Torque Converter Clutch engagement wire on the transmission. There's no Serial data...

    Steering Column Refresh Oddities

@Camar068 thanks for the link the document was really helpful. I watched a lot of Youtube videos, and this was one of the better ones: Good enough that the pictures i took now look pretty awful I got the column reassembled and a reproduction wheel on, which is now crooked. The wheel...

    Steering Column Refresh Oddities

Replying to my own post - 1) There is a brass stud on the turn signal switch which contacts the back of the turn signal cancel cam. This is missing on the old switch. 30 minutes of cussing and disassembly and the old switch is out. @Goldie Driver -- thanks for the parts but the bit that I...

    Steering Column Refresh Oddities

So, after some success with getting my reverse lights to turn on, I got cocky and decided to take off the little aftermarket steering wheel and put a stock replacement on. Now my truck does not have a steering wheel. First, I wrecked the spring clip and have to try to get another one. I'm...

What have you done to your square lately??

Played with the reverse switch and got it working. There were a couple of false starts - I tried to get the switch out but could not figure out how to do it. Rather than bust the switch, I kept playing with the adjustment, sliding it back and forth and finally got the reverse lights to come...

    Quadrajet Choke Operation

@SirRobyn0 - great pic. The Weber carb on my bug has a very similar notched cam, but you can watch the cam click down as the carb warms up (I forget, but I am pretty sure it is an electric choke).

Thanks all. I just expected that it would transition down to curb idle over time

    Quadrajet Choke Operation

I am trying to figure out how the choke / fast idle work on a Quadrajet carb. Chevy 350 SBC, no EGR/emissions. Carb has electric choke which works. I set idle and high idle the other day to 750 and 1200. Today I started the engine cold: one pump of the accelerator pedal and a short spin of...

    Running Rich?

Fixed the gas leak with yellow Teflon tape and moderate persuasion. Double and triple checked for no leaks Tried to time it again, and for the life of me I cannot see the timing mark at all. Gave up on that and adjusted the idle up to 750. Thought that I would go up to 850, but it just...
