3rd Time Trying to Get Temp Gauge to Read Right - No Luck

IIRC there are year breaks for the temp gauges. IE, the resistance will be different for certain year breaks. You may have an older temp gauge, using a newer sender will give a false reading. Mine does the same thing yours is doing, I just ignore it. I know what the temp is based on an autometer...

    Setting Timing

What heads, cam, and compression ratio are you running? They play a role in what timing is optimal.

    Double Dingo's 1965 3/4 Ton "Crusty Biscuit"

"Wild Thing" by The Troggs was released in '65. Wild Thing sounds pretty cool but not sure if it fits that truck. Winston Churchill died in '65, "Winston" may be a more fitting name, depending how you go with the build I guess.

Square body rear sway bar... $20

The 83 GMC K15 I had a while back had a rear swaybar, sold it to @Mr Clean but it was made different. That one definitely looks heavier duty.

    Heads and cam swap time?

All my accessories worked when I swapped to Vortecs. The new intake however did not line up the bolt hole for the alternator bracket but I just left it out. You should be able to do it in 2 long days. A skilled helper helps tremendously.

    Picking a cam/rebuild advice for 350 in 84 c1500

I'm in the middle of a similar rebuild myself, except I won't be having the block bored. Mine is in pretty decent shape, no ridge ring and fairly good on out-of-round/out-of-taper spec, standard bore. I think a quick run-through with a hone will give it some cross-hatch. My parts list so far...

    Popping/thumping in steering.

All great suggestions above. FWIW the frame cracks behind my steering box were not visible until I removed it. 2 of the bolt holes had a piece of frame about an inch big that fell out, and the other 2 had cracks that ran in behind the gear box.

    Loud clunk after dizzy install...

My first thought was the oil pump drive wasn't engaged, and if you had the distributor hold-down tight it likely popped into place. If the hold-down was tight and is loose now, that's likely what happened. If it was a louder noise, make sure the rotor is turning when you crank it, it's possible...

    need help on engine rebuild

Most racers who build more power in their engine can run a higher (lower numerically) gear ratio for higher top speeds. If it were me in his place, the engine would be addressed first, since typically it's a 30 yr old stock smog engine and really needs some help anyway. After the engine if gears...

    need help on engine rebuild

A bigger cam requires bigger compression. Swapping to Vortec heads with the smaller combustion chamber will gain you a little but I doubt if it will be over 9:1. Also Vortecs require a different intake, more expense. Swapping pistons from dish to flattops will give a nice bump in compression...

    Adjustable Proportioning Valve

After I converted to rear disc brakes I noticed the rears locked up easily. Contrary to the advice above, I did install a Jegs adjustable proportion valve between the master cylinder and the factory prop valve, and mounted it on the fenderwell. The instructions said to count how many turns it...

    Custom grille

I built this one out of rebar and expanded steel. Also made the headlight protectors. Wanted something that would stop a tree limb if you had to go through a downed tree if you had to. Not running it now, wanted to lighten up the front of the truck a little, just running the plastic stock one.

New to forum and driveshaft angle ?

You would have to get it cut to length by a driveline shop. There's several in that year range that will work, you can tell they're the ones because they are like $400 new. Any driveline shop worth their salt will know what you're talking about. I would measure it at full droop and again at full...

my new (first) vette, or my wifes? LOL

If it was me I would clean it up, paint it if it needs it, get it running right, stereo, whatever it needs to be complete, and then get a vanity plate that says "FOR TRADE". Don't fall in love with it, someone out there really wants a vette and has something really nice to swap for it.

    Carb Issues - PLEASE HELP

Make sure you're running a good fuel filter. If dirt gets under the needle and seat it will flood a lot and run really rich with black smoke. You can take a spark plug out and check it for black soot, if you have any it's running rich.

    Advance Curve kit

I have both and think they are the reason for my off-idle stumble. Not that it's their fault, just I don't have them tuned right yet. Both are designed to improve drivability and idle for street-driven vehicles. A lot of factors come into play like cam/engine profile. The centrifugal advance kit...
