Most of this thread is satirical in nature. I'll be brutally honest and say that aside from wacky front suspension designs, the older Fords are rock solid trucks. If I was stuck with a "Dent-side" or a "Bullnose" instead of a square I wouldn't complain.

Everyone has built junk at some point.

I once tried to jump start a third gen Dodge Ram truck driven by a woman similar to your description in the parking lot of a Dollar general. The gas charged hood struts were wore out and the hood kept slamming shut on me. The grille had those cheesy aftermarket fake chrome inserts on it. Every time the hood would slam, one would fall out. I jokingly said, "Just go ahead and remove the other three, if you're worried about looks." After much trouble, the truck still wouldn't start (I dont think the battery was ever an issue). She called her "boyfriend" (It was his truck, afterall.) All I heard was frustrated griping in Spanish with the phone on speaker. After she told me, he was on the way, I wished her luck and went on. Hopefully her boyfriend fixed it and was smart enough to buy new hood struts after that.

Lol this may be why I always grew up thinking it was normal to change oil every 2,000 miles. As I got older I mainly heard 3-4k miles, but as a teen I always thought 2k was the magic number if you wanted your rig to live past 100k. Even now with synthetic stuff in modern cars I always cringe when I hear people talking about 7,500 or 10,000 miles. I'm sure it's fine, but IDK man new oil might not leave deposits and may not shear as bad, but it's still gotta get dirty from normal blowby and these TINY little filters that new cars use can't possibly filter much...
Yup I've wondered if the tiny oil filter and too long of oil change intervals aren't responsible for many of the LS platform engines' problems, and the later ones with the cylinder deactivation stuff....

Yup I've wondered if the tiny oil filter and too long of oil change intervals aren't responsible for many of the LS platform engines' problems, and the later ones with the cylinder deactivation stuff....
Staying away from the cylinder deactivation that plaqued GM was one of Fords smarter decisions, but then they decided to add it on the 2019 5.0 engines.

On the bright side, both Ford and GM systems can be deactivated with the right tune.

At my buddys shop they used vicegrips on the struts to keep the hoods up. Every hood strut should use these for safety

They used to have these spring loaded plastic locks that mounted to the strut and would snap into place when you opened the hood/hatch. Do you remember those? Maybe not spring loaded, gravity activated. They were a cheap way out of buying a replacement strut when they first started coming out back in the day. There was like a mounting collar with a hinged straight piece. Can't find it now for the life of me.

I've met some cheapskates that would carry a 2x4 in their bed and use it as a hood prop, rather than just spending $20 on new struts.
