I know all the ins and outs,I've worked at parts stores, had the O'Reilly company discount, owned a parts store made sure I bought in quantities big enough to always W.D. Run parts stores been up at 1 00 A.M.entering inventory and adjusting the price matrix. I never worked anywhere that had that big of a price markup,as a matter of fact when I get home I'll try to find some price schedules from when I had my shop. The price schedule says right in it,wd, jobber, racer, retail, etc. gotta go doctors here.

Good for you still don't know it's not a knock off,but anyway good for you hope it works out fine. Do you think counterfeit products come packaged in boxes that say counterfeit? And yes internet sources can sell for less for a lot of reasons, but when the local boys go out of business,we're screwed.
I'm fixing to make you made. Do you live in a bubble? Don't you believe what people tell you? WHAT don't you get about this? I believe I have received a Dorman part. PERIOD, AND FOR $80.

I worked for PAW as a teen/ early 20's and they operated a few retail stores in SoCal. The markup on small service items like silicone, spark plugs, oil filters was huge. We used to sell a plastic pan for changing oil from Lisle for $2.50 and our cost was something like 30 cents. For a while I had a shop discount at Kragen/ O'Reilly's and the prices were comparable to online prices. WD price is always going to be better when buying at quantity levels.

I always try and buy local when I can but the selection is limited, parts have to be ordered in and half the time I can get it quicker online than they can to local store. If they matched prices, I'd spend a lot more and they would make up the margin on the quantity.

As far as counterfeits, I'm sure it happens occasionally but RA isn't going to grow as large as they are by knowingly selling them. I won't speak to other online marketplaces as I've rec'd some questionable items.
Rock Auto had the same part for the same price with shipping. Amazon just got it quicker to me.

Good for you, And do you live in a bubble? Do you think counterfeit parts don't get sold online? Do you think when we are done picking and choosing where we buy from, that the local places are going to stay open just for our last minute purchases. I'm done. IDC but we aren't comparing apples to apples.

I retired 12 years ago, worked at Advance, know how they mark things up drastically. I search and shop for my parts. I haven't bought a part from my local Oreilly's since they priced their stuff out of range for me. Case point: Went to buy some wiper blades, they stated they started at $21 ea, went to Walmart and bought two Michelin brand wiper blades for $16.

Your not comparing apples to apples, and no, I've never lived in a bubble. Are you that person that runs from place to place in that bubble that blows up? The local places can close up as for as I'm concerned. I have several vehicles I can drive at any time.

I've been working on vehicles for 50 years, and have always shopped around, even before there was an Internet.

I priced an AC compressor for an 2006 Ram 2500 at Oriely, they only had aftermarket ones for $400+. I found an OEM Denso unit on Amazon for $210. I always read reviews and examine packaging carefully to make sure it's not a counterfeit unit.

I think these chain stores charge premiums because they know that most people are impatient or desperate and will buy a grossly overpriced substandard part before waiting 2-3 days for a better part at a more fair price.

I know one guy that paid too much for a crappy Chinese knockoff IAC sensor at Oriely because he didn't want to wait on the OEM stuff priced the same. to come in the mail. He ended up having to buy the OEM sensor anyway, since the other garbage didn't even work.

With that said, chain and local stores are still useful for quick consumables like various filters and fluids, and I frequent them for that reason.

When I sop Amazon, I look at who the seller is, like the AC Delco Store. I do read revues. I don't even buy my filters or oil from the auto stores.

That is real deal parts pricing wd is what, the parts stores pay, jobber is what shops pay, racer is usually what it goes out the doors for retail is manufacturer suggested retail. Now down where I live the closest grocery store was lacygne kansas,5 miles away, next closest was osawatamie,11 miles away, then walmart opened in Paola 25 miles away, everybody, picked and choose what they'd by local, just their last minute crap now if you want a bag of potatoes you get to drive 50 miles round trip because the local store couldn't compete with walmart pricing. Now as for starting the name calling ,do you live in a bubble ???? Woo hoo ha ha ha. You know what you and your bubble can do!!!!

I don't know if I should jump in here... but I can see some validity in both y'alls sentiments.

I tend to use larger suppliers and some local stores for parts, as well as buying off eBay (mostly NOS and good used). I have done Rock Auto and mebbe Amazon once for something. I've ended up with some stinkers even from the local parts houses... we've gotten to an era where much of everything has been off-shored to god knows where, and it ends up in all the parts channels. One example is mechanical fuel pumps, which I've heard enough bad about that I resorted to locating older parts stock. Many rubber parts coming out of China or Bangkok or wherever are garbage, and the Chinese can't make a sealed beam headlight to save their ass. Most of the bargain price catalytic converters are garbage; they saved money by scrimping on the precious metals in the catalyst, and the things usually fail in a year or so. I need a wiper/cruise switch, and noticed that the price has gone from about $55 15 years ago to $16 today... I think I'll be looking for one that's not made of Chinesium.

At the end of the day, an oil pan just needs to hold oil, and as long as the holes line up, it'll probably do the job... Let's hope they didn't crossthread a drain plug made out of cream cheese into the thing.

It seems like the online parts channels are a mix of decent quality stuff, kind of okay stuff, and some sh¡t that's totally unusable... but they occasionally have actual OEM parts. One other thing that comes to mind, and it affects both conventional parts houses and online suppliers- is when some podunk company buys the rights to use OE names on their products... The parts guy is rattling off prices and warranties, and says: "You can get the Bosch for $78.99". Ehh... sure. Bosch never made a Delco CS130 alternator... it's some sweatshop, err... rebuilder that bought the rights to use the name. Just do your homework, use your brain, and you probably won't get stung.

You seem like the one who's mad, and started the bubble stuff and the ruby shoes what are you 5? I don't know why you care about my opinion, but I know why I care about your purchase. We've already lost all the manufacturing and manufacturing jobs. So now we have fewer jobs, lower paying jobs and we don't have any choice except to buy chineese crap, because it was cheaper so now there is no American stuff. There are no mom and pop grocery stores or gas stations anymore ,we are ruining our own economy, and I don't want see the local parts stores and all their employees, counter people, parts drivers, warehouse workers etc. to be the next ones to go. Now if you have something intelligent to say,say it,or I guess you can keep acting like a 5 year old it's a free country, kind of. I am entitled to my own opinion and you don't have to like it. I don't want to have to have memories of remember when could just drive a couple of miles and get some fuel line, and not have to pay overnight shipping g or wait 3days? You are free to have your opinion but respect my right to have one also without the childish remarks. Have a nice day.

I'm in no way shape or form taking sides here... but this struck me as funny, lol.
