PO(s) made Swiss cheese in the box, which I plan to weld up. I get the 10 holes on the top rails of the box but I don’t get the the holes in the front corners. Ideas? I don’t want to fill the holes if they might serve a purpose down the road.

Either weld them up, or make something with the same bolt pattern and have a unique accessory for the bed of your truck

I would say roll bar or antenna.

My first thought was a ladder rack, but a ladder rack or roll bar should sit on the floor of the bed, shouldn't it? It would still bolt to the bed rail though. Maybe a long slide out drawer or a platform with storage underneath? Could be some type of specialized tie down rig.

My factory 3/4 ton Camper Special package had slots cut in the front of the box, and there were brackets that went through them and bolted to the back off the cab. AFAIK there was a shock absorber/stabilizer bolted to each bracket and it connected to the camper. I think it was part of the “Elimi-Pitch” system that was used to stabilize a camper in the bed. There was also another set of brackets bolted to the top of the front fenders and another set of stabilizers bolted there.

Your truck may have had a similar system that was dealer installed, so it bolted on differently.

99% chance they are for truck camper brackets.

This is one I can try to answer in pictures. 79 camper special

Cab bracket for shock, drivers side, yes the cab bushing is shot on this side

This is the other end. It's unattached at the cab, not sure why.

Here's a look at the passenger side, minus shock. Brackets only. At least I have one sample.

Front, viewed from underneath. Gas tank helps obscure things

Rear from under. It clamps around a floor span. I imagine it does that up front as well.

Very different from the OP.

I don't think it's camper shocks/supports since there's no hole in the front bed panel. It was probably for a roll bar/light bar or antenna mounts from back in the day. Are there more holes in the bed floor too?

What am I missing? Those holes are in the front panel and they probably match a Happijac style tie down bracket like this.

My truck is drilled the same, along with bolts for the button mounts on the rear bumper.
Super common setup on older trucks before outfits like Torq lift started making frame mount brackets for the newer trucks with tin can sheetmetal.
Fwiw, those were the only holes in the bed I didn’t weld up. Mainly because they were big holes, and actually symmetrical, lol.

Ohhh I see. I was talking about a factory setup, those have the hole through the front bed panel and brackets on the back of the cab for the shock absorbers. Could definitely be an aftermarket setup though
