Anyone got any tips to get the flange studs out of the exhaust manifold. I’ve tried everything I have access to and even bought a MAP gas torch. I cannot get them loose.

Anyone got any tips to get the flange studs out of the exhaust manifold. I’ve tried everything I have access to and even bought a MAP gas torch. I cannot get them loose.
My 2011 Suburban blew the trans and I needed to get the exhaust off to get the trans out. Totally rusted on. I ended up having to just cut the stud off to get the y-pipe off. Then I couldn't get the studs out to replace them, so I just bought a brand new dorman replacement. It was like $40 and well worth the time saved in not trying to extract the broken stud.

You see I don’t know exactly what the engine came out of so I don’t know what the replacement needs to be, I’d spend $40 on a manifold. I spent $50 on a map gas torch that got me nowhere.

A doorman replacement for an 01 Silverado is $110 at oreillys.. I’ll keep trying to get the studs out

I’ve tried candle wax, different wd40’s, lots of heat, impacts, vice grips, pouring cold water on it, tapping it with a sledge hammer aggressively, just about everything. This is exhaust is what’s holding me back from even going for a test drive.

Only way I have ever remove the studs is to heat the manifold red hot with oxygen / acetylene torch.

you could always weld your exhaust to whats there. Not the greatest, but I'm on my 2nd vehicle in life that had the exhaust welded to the headers/manifolds.

At this point all I’ve got left is drill it out or replace it, the joint had a leak so I bought new studs and the last stud that had threads lost them during disassembly. I need to get this fixed then I can finish out my 2.5” exhaust since apparently dual 2” is too small lol

I do not know what your manifold situation is/looks like when I was 15 no decent supply of tools yet I drilled a manifold all the way through the studs and used nuts and bolts to hold it together,no idea if you can get nuts on the backside. I'd use oxygen acetylene,but I have oxygen acetylene.

Ruined 3 drill bits drilling one stud out, ordered a replacement manifold. Maybe I’ll get this truck finished one day

This is what I have. This will let you do anything you could ever want on an 0411 including whole OS read/write, segment swap, datalog, etc... using TunerPro RT, Universal Patcher, LsDroid, or PCM Hammer/logger. Thats all free software once you have the tool.

I also have HP Tuners, because the free ware can't tune my newer 2011 and it needed it badly after a regear and future turbo and/or engine swaps. HP tuners is much more user friendly, but WAY more expensive that the freeware option.
I'm new to all this so can I ask one dumb question? I've been looking at this dongle a lot. Will it work with a bench harness to delete vats and rear o2's?

I got a fixd scanner and I’ll hook it up after I get the exhaust manifold replaced.

Try AeroKroil. It’s what we use in the Aerospace industry.

Yes. I have it set up on my bench with Tunerpro to do the initial OS setup for my build. You can use universal patcher to do a VATS and Rear 02 delete without even needing to find an XDF or anything for your particular OS.
