As stupid as it may sound, I think c20s are often marginally cheaper than C10s, because people associate the C10 with being a better platform to modify.

This is ironic, since the C20 has beefier drive train components that actually fare much better in performance applications. The C20 is also only available as a long wheel base during the square years. This doesn't bother me, but evidently, it bothers a lot of people.

The C10 name is also very romanticized and nostalgic. The C20 name is associated with rough riding and simplistic company trucks, even though high trim C20s do in fact exist.

I can't find it now but it was here last night on this thread. It was a link to a 1978 listed on Hemmings. I went to Hemmings created a account it was a very nice truck he was asking 11,000 for it and it wasn't a auction so I bought it. I PM him and gave him my name and phone number and he texted me and said I'm not trying to start a bidding war but someone else offered me 12,000 what your highest price your willing to pay. Is this common practice to do that on Hemmings?https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1978-chevrolet-c20-533330. But here's the thing, if his asking price was 11000.00 and I met that and he wanted more why would he have not just asked more or let it go in a public forum like Hemmings that get all kinds of traffic until he got more offers. I don't get it. It's still up I left the link above.

Idk how the Hemmings adds or auctions work. Or if they’re regulated.
But the seller is a chump and he probably isn’t Starting a bidding war, but rather just playin you since it appears you’re the only one who’s offered his asking price. Figgers he can get more $ outta ya.

Fwiw, around here that’s nowhere near an $11k truck. Maybe closer to that price if it was a K20.
Screw that dude and find ya a truck out here. Nice C20s are pretty plentiful. Search CL in OR and WA.
I can think of 3 different 70s C20s on CL now in somewhat similar condition for $4500-7500 and none of them appear to have sold, been advertised for weeks.
Being from IL (I’m from IL too) I can see how a salt belter would get wide eyed about a truck in that condition. But if you gotta travel or ship, there are better deals out there.
Good luck in your search!

PS, any seller who says “What’s the highest price you’ll pay?” is a shmuck (putting it nicely) or used car salesman (also, putting it nicely, lol).

You sell something, you stick to your word. Ya can’t ask more than you’re asking already. Just means you’re an idiot or an *******.
It’s one thing if you are selling something and say, actually under price it and truly have multiple real buyers wanting it. Then it’s best price wins imo.

Too much money anyway, but especially too much for a sight unseen without a good rapport and gut feeling about the seller. And that guy with his real or feigned I got ace about things, like the paint/clear coat is not someone who can be trusted.

There are a lot of people right now look at their old square rotting out back under a walnut tree and somehow think since some are selling on BaT for huge bucks that their pile of crap is the next LS6 Chevelle or something.
It ain’t… there are thousands upon thousands of nice squarebody trucks out there still. Ain’t worth the big bucks unless they happen to be exemplary in some fashion.

And that truck has been re-painted. Maybe/likely not recently but it’s evident if you know what to look for.
Examples, back of cab cracking under paint. 99% chance there’s bondo there. And zoom in on bed stake pockets. Can see where paint was chipped, under the paint. Typical of areas like that that are subject to wear and damage but rarely subject to sand paper.
Paint on the hood looks funky as well and rarely see someone spray in bed liner in an old truck with original paint. It’s nice for resale though or the owner thinks it is, because it hides alot of the typical minor dings and scratches. And usually happens after the truck gets painted and the owner doesn’t want to sand prep and paint another half a truck (inside the bed is alot of paint).

Biggest giveaway is paint on the VIN tag. Zoom in. It’s been masked off once for a repaint.

There's a seller near me that has a rough looking mix-master '71 C10 lwb. There's writing on the windshield that says "Highest offer 12k." (I have a feeling he made this up in an effort to force someone to pay 13k). If I got offered 12k for that rough specimen, I'd take it and run like a bandit.

I paid 1000 for my 86 Short Bed Scottsdale, that was over 10 years ago. Paid 6500 for my dually c30 crew last summer. And now looking for a K5 73-79 2 or 4wd and willing to pay up to 20k. I can't believe the value on the blazers, but we want to add one to the fleet. Then maybe i'll find a nice k20 std. cab long bed so I have one of every type!

I spied this beauty while out on a route. Picked it up for $300. '76 Silverado with some swapped in 283 greatness. Rust oxide has made weight reduction for me as well. I have used it around the farm since I got it home and will continue until the other Squares demand a sacrifice and I need to rob parts from it.

I have seen substantially worse trucks sell for a lot more. You have done well.
