Okay, I need some advice as my ORIGINAL power steering pump is leaking on my '78 C10. So, I am in need of some advice. Should I......
1 - have it rebuilt (if I can find someone)
2- buy remanufactured Delco and if so where should I order from
3-buy new - would prefer no "Made in China", if possible, and where should I buy from

Will also be replacing the ORIGINAL high pressure and return lines.

Thanks in advance

It might just need a new o-ring seal between the pump and the reservoir can and or the o ring on the pressure hose to pump. If it works good and doesn't make alot of noise, you might be better off keeping the original and re-sealing it.. Sometimes the reman'd Delcos make alot of noise. (Mine does!!).

I think the parts store sells rebuild kits for them.

You can 'rent' the tool to remove/install the pulley from the chain stores. I've resealed quite a number of them, some just because they were off as a preventive measure.

The original pump on my '05 rotted out around the return tube, the shaft on the first reman split trying to get into the driveway, the second reman is noisy but still hanging in there. I now have a third reman on the shelf ready to go.

I’ve went through 3 remans on my previous truck, all were either leaky or noisy right out of the box….put new seals in if you can

Depends where it’s leaking as said above.
But if buying another one, and don’t like the practice replacing them, also as said , stay away from remans.

Remans will mostly become noisy or leak if they aren't installed properly. We had this problem a bunch on HMMWV's(which use the same GM power steering pump) to the point where the military spent a ton of time and money making sure everyone knew how to properly bleed the system before turning it on. If you don't, you will almost always either damage the pump(which makes it loud and hard to turn) or blow out a seal.

You need to lift up the front end to get both front wheels off the ground, fill the reservoir with fluid, then slowly turn the wheel all the way to one side and hold it for a few seconds. Then turn it slowly to the other lock and hold it for a few seconds. Do this 15-20 times while regularly checking the fluid level. If it becomes totally aerated(pink color and full of bubbles) stop and let it settle for 10-15 minutes before starting over again. Once you no longer get any bubbles or aeration of the fluid when turning it lock to lock, let it sit for another 30 minutes. Then start it up(still with the front lifted up) and turn it lock to lock a few more times. DO NOT HOLD IT HARD AGAINST THE LOCK DURING THIS STEP. Then shut it off and check the fluid again. If the fluid is clear and not foamy, top the fluid level off and drop the truck back on the ground. You are now done. If the fluid is still foamy or has any bubbles, you need to let it set for a few hours or preferably overnight and then try again. If you still get a bunch of foam or bubbles, you have a bad pump or leaky seals still.

Power steering pumps are not hard to rebuild. If you can take the pump off the engine, you can rebuild it yourself. The only special tool needed is the puller for the pulley. Autozone has this puller in their tool rental. Rebuild kit is only about $10. Take pictures as you take it apart, one piece at a time, then just replace the seals. Make sure to lube the o-rings with some power steering fluid before reassembling. Here's what it looks like on the inside

I installed a reman a few years ago, never had any problems, buy quality. You can rebuild too, your choice. Excellent idea changing hoses, some people cheep out, change them, do the job right the first time.
Take photos of the disassembly if you're not familiar with the process. Make sure you change the belt and that it's aligned.

1 month ago: Started rebuilding. Lucas Stop Leak I'd used was tough to clean out & I feared contamination, so remanned, changed hoses, added filter, new belt (over tightening can ruin new seal/o-ring), sloshed reservoir and filter w/naptha (no residue when dry - Lowes) then back blew w/air. Finally did bout same as bextreme04 till I was sick of it (Youtube vid). Last part is key to silent operation. Works great!

Great pics Memaloose. Advisable to also take your own.

Okay, Thanks to everyone for their replies. I have decided that I am going to have a new pump installed. I do not have the confidence to do it myself and the last time the other person here decided that "we could do it ourselves", the heater core was removed and it took 2 years to get back in. So no bueno. I have seen enough bad rap on remans to turn me away from a remanand if I rebuild it, isn't that technically a "reman"? So, I am going to spend the bucks and go with new one and have it installed.

Now, what brand? I have read in other messages on the board that Cardone are a steer clear. Lares are expensive, but if they are good and dependable, I do not mind spending the money.

So, what brand(s) would anyone recommend.

Just don't turn in Your old one for a core. May end up rebuilding it in the end.

I would never attempt a home reman, for me it's not because I feel I couldn't do it but because I just don't have the time.

Autozone lists a new Duralast pump part #7023N, for $79, but also says currently unavailable I might be inclined to quarry customer service on when or if that might be back in stock.

Hopefully some of that is helpful.

Okay, thanks for the input. Now, if it were YOUR beloved 45 year old, one owner, pampered and would like to be buried in it, truck, which one would you feel comfortable installing. Honestly, I only need it to last another 20-25 years because I will probably be ashes-to-ashes by then.

The other question is, do I order a 1 or two bolt attachment or just order both. Apparently both were used???? I cannot see the attachment due to the plate. So do I order both?
