They put a peice of box steel across the transmission tunnel hump and set the seats on that, instead of having a seat frame. They look like there floating there, nothing underneath.
I saw that episode. Hated that g wagon, but the seat thing was cool.

To each their own, but man that sounds dumb as fcuk. I'd be afraid to sit on it, can't adjust the seats, and it would just look really out of place with the seats "floating".

Would tend to agree, but it was something I hadn't seen before. They were still adjustable too. This is the only pic I could find of said g wagon interior.

I guess in some super custom trailer queen 'pimp my ride' type of decked out show car I can see how it would be a neat concept. But in a 40 year old pickup....? Eh I'm just not seeing it looking as cool as one would imagine.

Id personally forgo the impala seats and go for a more comfortable seat from a buick or pontiac or oldsmobile or something. But think about a few things. 1) do you want your seat to have to work with your seat belt on the cab (may fit awkwardly or so) or would you prefer a seatbelt built into the seat? 2) If so, you may like the buick/olds option I was thinking kinda thing.
But if you want to because you have them already... then My vote is no, but thats because function would be more valued to looks to me, and 2 buckets which cant move and are getting stuff stuck or lost under them would annoy me

I mean that's awesome you want to customize your truck and all, but doing something just for the sake of "hey it probably hasn't been done before" doesn't necessarily mean it will be a good idea in the end.

Someone could embroider a big fat dick onto their seat covers and sure it would be a one of a kind custom interior, but it sure as hell wouldn't be cool lol. Hah I'm not saying your floating impala seat idea is comparable to dick seats, I was just trying to use a far fetched example.

Instead of worrying about "something that hasn't been done on a squarebody", just enjoy your truck. If you want custom seats, put in custom seats. If you wanna lift it, make it loud, lower it, put big ass chrome spinners on it, whatever. Just do what you want, don't worry about doing something for the "cool points" and trying to be that first guy who did something different for the sake of being the first one.

I like what the MRAPS have. The seats are suspended in midair by a series of straps. Keeps the troops isolated from blast damage when hit by IEDs...

I saw that same episode and wondered WTF! That seemed like a cheesy mod, one I wouldn't pay Martin Brothers prices for.
