this is just a post about 8 lug brake setup in back, nothing more.

my 85 k20 super double xtra heavy duty has the 13" drums in back.

after i rebuilt them, i got a load of sand put in the back.
like a million pounds worth.

the rear brakes had no trouble stopping that load.
60mph to 5mph xtra quick for a 90degree right hand turn.

would probably stop it even with a 747ci v14 in it.
;)

swap axles front and back if you want to go with 6 lug parts, no worries.

the 8 lug stuff will stop anything you can put in the truck though.

good luck,
'monkey

Dang, that's loads so heavy you've almost achieved a Carolina squat! It's nice to see the old workhorse still hauling.

I do agree that factory brakes on 3/4 and 1 tons are pretty powerful and trying to upgrade them is like wearing a belt with suspenders. Like others said, maybe there's a reason there aren't very many aftermarket 8 lug "upgrades" available. 5 and 6 six lug do seem to have more aftermarket support in high performance applications though.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning…
Yeah you’re right. Apologies to @chevy79_qa. Not warranted.
Not sure what I’d consider today to be.
Long story but dealing with some grave family health issues right now and I’ve been known for my mouth to go before my brain says whoa.

stick with the 8 lug, but add a hydroboost brake booster. Retina detaching braking power...!
It's very effective.

I think that is your only option without swapping out axles. Do a disc brake conversion on the 14 bolt. Then get those Wilwood twin piston brake calipers all the way around. And if you did a hydroboost setup you'd have everything you'd ever need.
If that isn't enough then the next step is a drag parachute.

Is there a specific HB for the k20 ? Only found for the c10’s, will they work ? I’ve got the PSP type 2 I can get the remote reservoir for this set up.

If money is no object, then throw the current 8 lug axles in the scrap pile and order a custom 9 inch or Dana 60 with the 6 lug axles and a custom built straight axle conversion, without a differential. If you have enough money, somebody will build it and ship it to you. Maybe something similar to a "Baja racing" set up.
Is the truck going to be for Drag racing? What are you going to be using the truck for?
Maybe start with a 2 wheel drive truck.
Help us understand what you are trying to accomplish with this build.
Maybe some pictures of the truck too.
Neither just cruising I just want the power. If the brakes on it currently are enough I’ll just upgrade to hydro boost and get some goodies from YUKON and beef up the diffs. What do you guys think ?

I've always found "sleepers" entertaining. I thought about building one out of an '85 C10. There's a '70 C10 known as "Farm Truck" that's pretty entertaining to watch. It appeared on a few Street Outlaw episodes.

I think that's a solid idea. I'd check what gear ratio you have now though before I'd mess with the differentials. Now is the best time to change gears, if the current ratio doesn't suit your needs. Stock 14 bolt axles shafts are pretty rigid, but if you're really concerned, you can go ahead and get some beefier ones.

What's the rest of the truck look like? It looks pretty good from the member icon pic. I've seen some videos of folks doing sand-drags and hill climbs in your part of the world and doing it with some unusual stuff.
