I brought this back from Utah about 3 years ago. My Dad bought in 1987 to haul his camper. It is actually an old Forest Service truck that the guy who bought it from the government scuffed and sprayed it with an awful brown. We used it as is until Dad bought a '93 K3500 (that I have now). It sat in his yard and then garage for 10+ years when he offered it to me. I have been slowly working on it as time allows. I have stripped most of the brown off with oven cleaner, sanding, and elbow grease. I have tried to preserve as much of the original green as I can but it has been a losing battle. The truck is actually very solid with just a couple of rust perforations in the door corners. I hope to have it to a point that I can drive it around the pasture by the end of this year. Not sure the plans but I am keeping it as stock as possible at this point. Truck is very basic, the only options are the 327 (still has the original engine), TH400 (original as well), and heavy springs.
Couple of pics of it on the trailer and how it looks right now. And I threw in a shot of the 1993 K3500.

Got the first coat of paint on the doghouse and also painted the bumper and bezels. Slowly getting it looking better. Still have to paint the rear bumper.
Probably crazy spending all this time on a base 3/4-ton but it was my Dad's and we camped all over the west in her.

Very cool truck. Bringing back memories of my uncle who had a 67 that was orange and he used that thing all over for hunting. He was a WW2 Navy veteran who has been certified to the first guys to ever be hit by a Kamikaze while on the deck of their ship. Their ship is credited with being the very first boat/vessel to be hit by a Kamikaze in history.

The earliest memories I have are riding around in my dad's dark green '67 small window C10, it was three on the tree and beat to hell, we named it the green monster. I didn't know jack sh!t about vehicles because I was about three years old, but I distinctly remember that truck (and the white '69 k20 he replaced it with, as well as the brown '75 Jimmy he replaced that with when he and my mother divorced less than a year later) despite being so young I probably shouldn't remember any of it. Hah, he treated that thing like a one ton, beat it hard hauling wood and put it away wet. We lived on a VERY steep hill and I remember he would shut it off with his foot the floor to flood it on purpose so he could pop start it for a big backfire, would make me laugh like crazy.

Also, I may have a sentimental attachment to the green truck as that's what Dad's truck was (albeit a darker green), but honestly it looks pretty sharp painted brown on the hurricane wheels. Honestly I'd have to say I probably like it better that way. Too bad i's so whooped lookig, but that's really not a bad color, and the wheels are just awesome.

Nothing wrong with "spending all this time on a base 3/4 ton".
That's a huge part of the appeal of these trucks..they all have a following/attraction regardless if it's a SWB 1/2, LWB 3/4, 4x4, 1 ton.
Like the attention you're giving a well deserved family heirloom.

Thanks for all the comments.
RecklessWOT to bad you are not closer. I am getting rid of those turbine rims to clear out some space. I just can't seem to channel my '80s vibe and they need to go. Truck originally had splits (that Dad tossed when he bought the truck). I picked up some good one piece steelies that will go on it.

After the second coat... Will let it sit for about a week then buff and clear it.

New lugnuts showed up yesterday so I bolted the rollers I picked up last week on the back and put the new hubcaps on it. Looks better than the old MT turbine rims. Probably will not get much done over the next week on it. Last weekend of the State Fair and some home and farm chores are overdue.

Very cool truck! I'd love to have one of my dad's old cars back.

Not a lot of progress from the last update. I got the grill masked and painted white and the right bed side done. I am working on the left side now. Making small but incremental gains on this thing. Hope to get the bodywork completed before the cold weather hits.
Not going for a garage queen I want to drive and use the truck around town and the farm and not worry getting it dirty.

Sold the turbine rims yesterday for $250. They are going to a good home. Money will be rolled back into the C20. I hope to get the left bed side, tailgate, and cowl panel knocked out this weekend. Getting tired of sanding and glazing. There is still a lot of mechanical work to be completed and the interior is gutted (but I have most of what I need for it already). I need to TIG the supports on the trailing arms, replace the heater core, rebuild the shift linkage, recore the radiator and refire the motor to see how healthy it is. I am about even odds on it needs to be freshened up. Still a long road ahead but I am gaining. Having it look better motivates me more than anything else.

Got the left bed side painted and the cowl panel and tailgate primed and almost ready to go.
Made better progress than I thought I would so far this weekend. Just might finish the bodywork before harvest and hunting season Lord willing and the creeks don't rise.
