That's cool info! I'll take it apart and see what color springs are in it right now.

Forgot to update, there are silver springs installed. Also, the advance stop screw has 4 different holes that it can be installed in. It is currently in the "next to least advance" position.

I believe a local Napa has the correct ignition rotor in stock. Will find out for sure tomorrow.

Minor updates since the last post in December. I didn't do anything with the car over the winter because, well, it was cold and wintery lol. I didn't have anywhere indoors to work on the car. In March, we bought a house and I drove the wagon to the new house. With the move in progress, the wagon still didn't get any love. At the beginning of May I went out of town for work, so the wagon just sat parked in the barn/garage until now.

So that gets us to now. The transmission was puking all of it's trans fluid while it sat in the garage. The pan gasket was the biggest culprit.

It was clean as a whistle in there. The only debris in the pan and filter looked to me like old cork gasket material.

I'm not a fan of the new filter's construction. Seems kind of flimsy, but I used it anyway.

I also did an oil change while I was under there. After running the car, the hesitation/stumble is still there and worse than ever. Playing with timing and such did not make a difference. That accelerator pump is garbage with a capital "G". I had the very same issue with the same model 2G back in the 90's on my Impala. I just could not keep a good working accelerator pump in that dang thing. If I can't find a claimed high quality accelerator pump to try out, it may be 4bbl time.

Oh, and I did get a new rotor for the dual point dizzy that Rusty sent me. But it may be wise to figure out the stumble before swapping that in.

I just looked through your thread bucket. That’s a rare car for sure. You can tell it’s a TRUE SS because it has the plastic inner fender wells. Only the SS came with those. They also came on the Oldsmobile 442 W30 and W31. I think the Olds ones were a reddish color. I can’t remember. I owned a two door post 69 Olds 442. Getting old sucks.

Really? I thought all the '73 Chevelles had them. I definitely wouldn't claim that as fact though, I've still got much to learn about the '73-'77 years.

Nope, only the SS and I think the Laguna S3? Not sure on the Laguna but I know for sure that the SS came with plastic inner wells and the standard Malibu had steel. I’ve had 4 73 SS and 3 standard Malibu‘s. My brother has a 1973 SS. It is Silver with the lack stripes just like yours. He’s rebuilding the 454/400 turbo combo as we speak. He is the third owner and bought it for 1200 when he moved to Cali for a job. He’s had it for almost 30 years. I DO know that it is a fact about the inner wells. We have been trying to find an original one for his car for 20+ years. They are usually cracked or pieces missing from them so if you have good ones they are worth a fortune.

So my wagon had the original Polycast finned wheels... I've still not figured out if they were available on coupes or not. I've seen them on wagons (just in pictures of course) and El Camino, but the coupes all seem to have the Camaro/Nova style rally wheels. Were the Polycast wheels available on SS coupes?

Yes, they were an order option. They also came on Monte Carlos 73-77

Sure what are the chances that dude was so cool he was 40 years ahead of his time and he had black wheel?
That's what I thought about that...but mostly yeah it's f- ugly as sin and heavy as a mf. It suuuure would be hard on a vortex pullin that 2 tons. Youd have to getcha a healthy ass motor to move that pile of ship.
then I read the articles
Wha- a fire?
Ppl suck. His buddy had it 40 years and that ***** set it on fire and now wants to unload it. Nothing else worth typing about really it's a pair of seats to me.
