82 C10 just bought it. Wait that’s a lie, I bought it 6 months ago and finally brought it home last week. Here is my problem. No sign of life from front turn signals except running lights. No sign of life out back except running lights. Nothing flashes on turn signals, 4 ways and there are no break lights. I think the column might have been switched, has what looks like a Camaro wheel and tilt column. I have weird options, like cruise control and power windows but no AC. Anyhow, where is a good place to start? Thanks to any that reply.

I just practiced some yoga and wound my fat self inter the dash. Fuses look ok. Pulled the flasher and put my meter in there with button depressed. Nothing. Did see a small harness hanging down. Had 2 different color greens, gray, and faded red. Looked more like a radio hookup or something. Anyway where should I look next?

It could well be something in the column. However in most of these cases it is a bad ground wire. Start with the towing harness. That was my problem. It’s hanging there under the bed and is subject to every piece of crap you see. I see you are in Florida, you have the added problem of salt air corrosion. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I’m well inland so I’m safe and the truck is not nearly as rusty as most. Sounds like a good place to start to me. Would the effect my front turn lights too? And on another note, shouldn’t my column be body color?

I thought that all the columns were black but I have to say I never really paid attention. My 74 has a black column and it’s a red truck. As far as the lights are concerned I had it so that if I wiggled the harness different lights work then not work.

Columns are all black unless some one painted it. The no brake lights aswell is a weird one cause it is not really associated with a flasher.
Almost sound like nothing but the ignition has been hooked up on the column. Any wires dangling around on the top of the column. They are a bugger to disconnect. Darn near have to have the thing lose to disconnect them.

Here's a shot of a 89 column. The wires taped up on the very top by my left shoe toes are the signals and flasher wires plugged in there

Start with the brake lights. Check for power on the orange wire of the brake switch. Push the brake pedal, you should have power at the white wire.

If that’s good, make sure the turn signal switch is in the center position. With the brake pedal pushed down, check for power at the green and yellow wires of the turn signal connector. If you have no power there, push and pull the hazard light button a few times. Still no power? Replace the turn signal switch.

With the ignition on, check for power at the purple wire of the turn signal switch. No power? Check the (turn signal) flasher. Unplug the flasher, with the ignition on one terminal should show power. If not, check the fuse.

Check for power at the brown wire of the turn signal switch. It should have power at all times. If not, check the fuse. If that’s good, check for power at the 4way flasher.

No power at orange. No power at flasher socket. With key on I get a tiny glow of power from the gray on top of the brake switch. Now what.

Thanks to all that help an especially Matt. I was gonna hide like a little sissy and not admit the problem but I realized I need to post so it might benefit others. First I checked all the fuses. All looked perfect. Then I went on testing other circuits. I did not TEST the fuses. Got frustrated and went back to square one and tested them. BAD. Both of them. Still look perfect but 2 fuses and I can now drive my new truck I call sunburn. I live in Florida, picture the paint. Anyway 2 fuses and fixed. Thanks all you rock. Stop by and I will buy ya a cold snack. Scott

I actually ran into this before. Fuse had a hairline crack in it. Looking at it briefly looked good. But when squeezed the terminals together it opened up. Now when checking fuses I do both side to make sure power is going to both sides.

Glad it was a easy fix for you
