So, I recently aquired a 86 K10 for my son and I to work on for his first truck. so the front wheel bearings were toast. I could hear them. Problem is when I took the caliper and hub off the whole **** just fell right into my lap. The nuts are still there they just backed off i guess. i couldn't see the washer. the internals on the hub is missing a spring as far as i can tell. outer bearings were mangled. I was able to get the numbers for both the inner and outer bearings but i really need some kind of diagram to see what is missing and what is not. thanks in advance. btw the truck was a free truck only a few issues. someone dropped a 69 327 in it that was rebuilt. the truck was used at a dirt race track to pack the dirt before being parked for 8 years when track closed. only other major issue i see is its not shifting into third but if you stay on it, the torque converter locks up like its supposed to. any ideas would be appreciated. ill try to get some pics up soon

Some pictures would help...

Are you saying the inner spindle came off with the hub?

or that the hub fell off before disassembling the locking hubs and spindle nuts?

That's scary... so the only thing holding the entire hub on was the axle then. Its hard to find an exploded diagram for the 10 bolt, but the basic parts and assembly order is the same as the dana 44. Just make sure if you are ordering parts that you actually do it for a 10 bolt and not a Dana 44 as they can be slightly different. Here is a good exploded diagram for a Dana 44 so you can see how it is supposed to be assembled. Its a bit different on the locking hub section only as this one shows it with auto locking hubs.

Also, we really need to see some pics of this!!!

Dang... I usually have to beat those with a dead blow to get them off of the studs.

I would check your backing plates for wear at the knuckle stud holes, the stud holes in the inner spindle, and take a good look at the studs in the knuckle for cracks or wear. These parts should go together with very little clearance.

The needle bearing inside the spindle is probably shot too along with the spindle seals.

That wheel was held on by nothing but a snap ring and/or a u-joint. No wonder the bearings are toast, it would be impossible to have correct preload without the spindle being bolted on.

Do you have Auto or manual locking hubs, and do they look original or aftermarket? I would assume an 86 would have had Spicer hubs but not totally sure.

not sure if the lockers are OE but they are manual warn hubs. i used the timken site to gather info on all the bearings and hubs that can be serviced in the entire truck so that was a great help.

Sounds like you are on the right track, you can probably find an exploded view of your Warn hubs by searching the part number.

You weren't kidding, that does look like a mess.

Looks like Warn 20990, the Warn site doesn't show the instructions but I found them on Summit Racing they're good for listing instructions on almost everything they sell.

Is the little lock stud snapped off of the spindle nut? Without the washer in between them there's nothing to protect it, also the Warn hubs rely on the spindle nuts and washer being installed correctly or they will malfunction.

So behind the spindle bearing there is a thrust washer. It may be intact or not how do I go about identifying it in the pile of debris and/or finding a part number for a new one?

Could be stuck on the back of the spindle or to the flange on the axle stub or under the dust seal on the back of the spindle...

The ones on my '80 K10 with GM 10 bolt look like the plastic unit on the far right of this photo.

top is the spindle bearing
Left is the outer dust seal
bottom is the inner seal

That link I posted above has an exploded diagram and if you go to the "GM 8.5 10 bolt front" section you will find every part you could need to rebuild the hub there. They dont have an exploded view there, but you can reference the name from the parts list on the Dana 44 page and then look for the same name in the 10 bolt parts list.

Best place to get a parts diagram and blow apart pictures is look up a TM repair manual or parts manual for an M1009 CUCV blazer.

I used to have all the CUCV manuals in my phone for quick reference, but I no longer do.

I've used just that diagram to figure out the same issue on my 84 blazer. The whole hub just fell apart, was missing parts too. Very helpful.

Manual is meant for 83-86 CUCV chevys, but it fits for almost any squarebody chevys made. The M1009 is a k5 blazer, but it uses all half ton parts, so the Info for the axle of those trucks with fit the axle of yours.

TM manuals are easy to find online and are free for download as a PDF.

Sounds like the nut that holds the hub on backed off, set nut must have backed off too, or the snap ring broke or both.
If you rotor is damaged, I have another set. Dont have any internal parts though.

Good luck
