Hello,

I bought my truck missing a hood-side latch (for internal release vehicles), and I'm coming to learn that it could cost me - no one makes a replacement for the hoop, and all the sources I ask have either never heard of the loop-style latch or want $150 for one. I'm going to try my hand at making my own instead. To do so, I'd like to see if someone here could take the basic dimensions off their latch and share them here. I'm looking primarily for two dimensions as marked in the attached picture: The diameter of the latch bar (D) and the depth of the latching feature from the plate (h) - I know this second dimension is adjustable, just looking to get a ballpark length here. A good bonus dimension would be a rough estimate of the loop post to the line scribed by the leftmost bolts (L). While we are at it, any other dimensions you could get from this part would be a huge help. If my attempt at making a hood latch is successful and easily replicated, I'll make a post on how to do it too so everybody else doesn't have to fork out the dough to get a new latch or replace with an outside release. Likewise, if you know a cheaper source for the thread-in ring I'd love to know. Thanks all!

I'm not near my trucks right now, but the dimensions are not that critical. The thickness of the loop needs to be no bigger than the opening in the latch, the 'span' of the loop needs to be wider than the thickness of the latch and the overall depth has a bunch of adjustment on the factory part.

Thanks for asking this. I'm in the same boat, have all the other pieces for inside hood release but that one. OER is the only company I know of that reproduces these, Classic Industries sells them, but they have been on back order for the last year! Like to get the front to back measurement of the loop too

I do still need one. I am new to the forum and can't figure out how to send a DM, but if you message me we can work out details. Thanks brother!

@greenweenie

I'm outside now, so I peaked in the scrap barrel, I found the hood latch. If you want to PM an address to ship it too, I'll get it in a box and slam it over.

free shipping, bc negotiating paypal over <10$ ain't worth neither of our's time

I guess Luke has first dibs, but if you don't hear from him I definitely want it! I'll shoot you some cash too. If nothing else, can you take some measurements of the loop? I know I can forge one out with a rose bud and round stock

I most certainly can provide the dimensions he asked for before I ship it.

I have the mounting plate from LMC, so I don't need the diameter of the rod or the L dimension to the mounting bolts. The H dimension would be helpful, if you can give me the dimensions of the loop, front to back, and top to bottom that would be great!

Vince, I sent along a PM with the address, thanks for the help man. I can also take the measurements of the latch when it gets here and post those to the forum for others that might be trying to put one together themselves. This forum is great, y'all rock!

This part is reproduced.
$24.99 @ Classic Industries
471899 Hood latch striker bolt 77-80

The website allowed me to order and showed available. I deleted it as I didn't need it from my order but usually it shows b/o on items like my door panels that I've been waiting since October.
