That was dumb tho, apparently people out there were sitting in car, running, and would just move the gear shift!?

my first car was 1990 so I did not have interlock. not once did I ever just go whip it from park to R N D 3 2 1 lol, always foot on brake.
There have been many times I wanted to move gear lever with car off, have to hop in and press brake and its like.... ugh

Try going from "D" to "R" for race mode while cruising at a 55 roll, it's a secret they don't want you to know.

Override the column lock, or just break it like I do

I did that to my 4T65 on accident, the motor just stalled and it died.

I was racing q ueers and accidentally went to 6th gear while manually shifting

I've done that too... in a 1980 Ford Bronco. It was the heavy duty 351M with a C6 trans. Tried to coast down a steep hill in N and the reverse lockout was INOP, went one notch too far and the trans slammed in reverse.. chirped the 33" tires and killed the engine. No damage to any part I could find, but I never did that again. If we are lucky, the stupid mistakes we make are learning experiences instead of memorials on our tombstone.

The way I remember it, it was parents leaving the kid in the car with it running. The kid would move the shifter and unplanned excitement would occur. As parenting declined, safety devices were designed to compensate.

Survival of the fittest was defeated by safety devices. Taking away the rights of stupid people to die in stupid accidents is just wrong. (Sarc humor, in case it's not clear)
I wouldn't even say that sarcastically, just honestly. Sometimes people die from their own dumb actions, there are almost 8 Billion people on this planet, can't save them all. Just less morons around.

Who would have guessed that this 'clutch safety switch delete' thread would lead up a mountain road?

Is that a paved or unpaved mountain road ???
And how many twists and turns ??
Hopefully there is a good strong guardrail for SAFETY.

Why do I get the feeling this trip up a mountain road is going to be a long one ??

But, that said, knowing how many screwballs we have on the site, nothing surprises me any more.
