@mtnmankev you got me wondering so I looked it up. Certain online retailers show Quakerstate, but their company website only shows a handful of shop in my area that sell it. I would assume they are buying it in bulk.

Pennzoil's website shows mostly Synthetic flavors of oil but they do like one blend. So I guess that was their solution. Given that companies reputation it is surprising it's still in business.
I have not used any Pennsylvania crude based oil in any of my vehicles since I learned what caused those deposits in the engines I had to work on.
And yet, many folks have sworn by Pennzoil religiously.
Maybe they got away with running it by always running the engine full operating temp every time it's started, and change oil often, or they didn't know or care and sold the vehicle before the engine needed to be disassembled.
I would not take a chance, so I always ran Valvoline or Castrol GTX.
Edit: now that I think about it, I have seen Quakerstate oil at Walmart.

Not bad enough to scoop it out, but all the little low spots in the heads had some of this in it. Plugged up his drain back passages. That was actually what tipped him off that there was a problem. He cleaned it out as best he could, and switched all his motors to Quakerstate. Dad wasn't a dummy he just didn't know. His well maintained 350 had to be gone though just shy of 100K, I remember how upsetting that was to him as he really liked that truck, it was a 350 powered square. He also had similar issues with my mom's International Scout.

What oil company is going to print a label on the jug that says "may cause engine problems"??
You know that THEY knew about it all along and kept making/selling their crap.
It's a shame more car/truck owners weren't warned in time to make a different choice about lubricants.
I am lucky I had that warning as a teenage driver.

Am I the only one who sees the comet falling from the sky, heading directly towards the Ford? I know I would like to see the impact photos.

Ford Tells 39K SUV Owners to Park Outside

So far it hasn't developed a repair for the fires, which appear to start at the back of the engine compartment on the passenger side.

Of the 16 fires, 12 happened while the SUV engines were turned off, Ford said in a prepared statement.


I thought most were already parked...err,on the side of the road?

Back in the day anyway,Pennzoil touted that "Z7" detergent additive that was in their oil.Claimed it would keep engines immaculately clean.My dad used Pennzoil every 3k in his chevy.Motor rod bearing went out at about 140k anyway. Ya just never know.

I helped a friend work on his Ford Mustang back when we were teenagers and swore from that point on I would never own one. Then someone invented the ultimate tool to figure out why they have so many issues, they call it the internet. Now that google knows everything and Utube shows everything, it's actually possible to keep them running long enough to get most of the way home from work.

When My 2004 Astro van at 140,000 miles started preparing to toss engine parts out the side of the block i had to quickly find another daily driver to get to work. I didn't have time to be picky and had to grab whatever was available, in the right price range and would fit a 6 foot step ladder inside. I found a 2003 Ford exploder in good shape with only 93,000 miles. After spending plenty of time researching all the Ford defects and how to fix them, I fixed them. I'm at 206,000 miles on the original engine and transmission.

I'm pretty sure I would have gotten more miles out of the Chevy Astro 4.3 if I would have not taken it to the race track.

In the early 2000's worked for 7 years at a Goodyear, that had a contract with Metro van pool, to service their van pool vans. They had two flavors of vans depending on size needed. The Astro van, and the extended length Dodge B300's. I have no idea how many vans they had in total, but it was enough that they had a place they called the van yard. They did in house detailing and oil changes on the vans everything else went to us. They were on a rigorous maintenance schedule, and we routinely serviced astro vans well north of 200K with their original engines and trannys.

You mean like today, on the way to the lake, for work? I finished off the transmission on my way to the lake this morning. LOL So lucky I made it 50 miles home on high elevation mountain roads without having to find a Chevy to tow it home with. So now I just have to acquire a fresh transmission and a place to do the swap, and it's going to be 90 degrees tomorrow. This is sofa king not how I wanted the rest of the week to go.

If cell phone tickets weren't a thing I would of had a classic Found On Road Dead picture on one of the industrial area main streets right at the lights. About 6 B train semi's waiting to turn left behind him.

Kinda felt sorry for him with his head and arms on the steering wheel with the hood up. Felt his pain cause I was in the same spot a few years ago with a distributor problem just not at rush hour.

You are correct, thankfully I had enough common sense to order the new transmission last month and it arrived last week. When you own a Ford you best stock up on replacement parts before you need them. LOL Thankfully I have a great relationship with most of my clients, I mentioned the issue and was offered use of one of his lifts in a nice air conditioned private shop with back ground music even.

Funny, a couple of days ago I was doubting myself for buying the transmission, thinking I might have purchased it prematurely. But then I was reminded that you can never be too prepared when you drive a Ford.
