Re-badging my Square

Stooopid question of the day. Is this a deal killing faux pas?

Have no interest in selling my truck, but might happen one day. My truck is a Scottsdale 20....was pretty stripped (no options) and very bastardized when I got it - wiring, under hood accessories (all with various JY markings), transfer case, brake system, steering column.....even the locks were a mismatch. The motor was pulled and replaced. I am redoing everything from scratch - every bolt, wire, hose, line and component was replaced with new. The sheet metal is totally stripped down for an all new color.

I have in my possession NOS original Silverado 20 fender badges. My new dash came with a new vent panel and Silverado badge. I have no interest in chroming everything up, but am considering using what I have and rebadging it as a Silverado. It will be LOADED - power everything, new-bigger-badder motor, so not like I'm ruining an all original truck.

It wont change what I'm doing to it, but am a bit curious as to how bad it might damage any future value - or any truck like this for that matter.

I would definitely use the emblems that I already owned. If ever you sell it you could always explain to the future owner of the change or they could reference the SPID and see that it was not a "genuine" Silverado.

Don't think square body trucks will be judged like other vehicles for quite a while. Like say putting Mach1 badging on a standard Mustang fastback. The truck I am restoring has Silverado badges on a Scottsdale. To replace the badges adds up quick.

You're not kidding. Cannot believe what they are going for now vs a year ago. Many (of the Scottsdale, Custom Deluxe, etc) are out of stock with no backorder too.

Try finding Sierra fender badges that don’t cost an arm and leg, or at all for that fact…
At this point I’m almost wishing I welded up the fender badge holes and considering just slapping the old Silverado badges on it that I took off!
Now I think I know why one of the previous owners made it a “Chevy” at some point….

And no, it won’t hurt the value one bit IMO. Well, at least not more than the cost of proper matching badges if someone is that OCD when your kids sell it at your estate sale after yer pushin daisies! Lol.

Yeah, the Bowtie Brigade has us beat on this one.

Funny , though, that the majority of my squares have been GMC's . All used vehicles, just happened to be what was available.

At least I am not having to find a blower switch for a '75 where Max AC is actuated by having the temp lever all the way over to the left, and one click right = normal ac.

Although I think they repop those now.

The Sierra Classic package or wherever it said on the options sheet should have been a dead giveaway but it was advertised as a Chevy and I was far more intent on inspecting everything that mattered mechanically.
Pleasant surprise though, as not as many GMCs around and dads first truck was a GMC….

As long as you don't toss some **** motor in there and call it a build, it can be any chevrolet you want it to be, and I'll approve of it.

Personally I like the GMC grills better, but wouldn't want the hassle of finding one. lol

I don't think I'll get less for it.

Right? Actually the grilles are readily available, but the correct emblem, not so much, in my research.
I wanted an OE looking grille at first, but the stainless steel grille that was on it is in really good shape. I found a new GMC emblem off of a newer truck for cheap and attached it to the grille. It looks good enough for me!
The whole point of picking the truck I did, was to not have to buy 500 different little things and repair 1000 issues. Not looking for a perfect original replica, but rather a just a clean looking truck that doesn't have anything out of place on it when I'm done. And I'm doing good in that respect, even with all the paint materials (which I bought enough to do inside the bed too), I've got maybe $2500 into it plus purchase price and that includes new OE quality dash pad, carpet and all new window seals, exterior trim and a $79.95 matching hood ornament! (Another GMC item that is scarce. Have 2 Chevy hood ornaments, 1 is like new and gave $15 for it, but haven't been able to scavenge a decent GMC one.
Got a new seat and some new tires and wheels to go and if the engine holds together (seems solid) that is the only big stuff left to buy.

Thats one thing with my truck is.....I fear I'm making it too nice. Actually had alot of fun with it when I didn't care if it got scratched or dirty (course, it didnt run much either - lol). But I'm OCD thataway and figure it will never be apart like this again. I used to resto old Euro cars and all of them won multiple shows (one was a '62 Austin Healey that placed 2nd at Pebble Beach), so I overdo it because I can.

I just brazed in the badging holes on mine. I'll use the 3 m tape if I decide to have any badges after painting.I dealt with so much rust on this truck and I just want to minimize any chances of going through that again.
