I’ve learned there’s some things best left to the pros, aka it’s pretty difficult to make a custom exhaust with a bunch of pipe and pre bent fittings compared to someone with a lifetime of fitting exhaust and the right tools.
Just gotta find a good old school muffler shop. They’re around but not plentiful.

Looking at it again, you’re only modifying just the very rear portion of the tailpipe. Might be doable with an assortment of bends. But even if you can weld it together it will never be as clean as a single bent piece like the first pics.

your right on that but price go's up these days and a estimate at $800 at local shop..think gonna try and use my new welder and play with it!

My son has fun with making exhaust now since I have bought him a welder.
Having the proper assortment of bends helps a ton, so find a good source for the size you want and buy plenty of them. And then some as you are bound to need to make corrections.
So far he has made several custom exhaust pipes for all different kinds of cars he and his buddies have.
I have found that looking around in the junkyard can yield plenty of those expensive exhaust parts for pennies on the dollar.
Just yesterday we pulled 3 tailpipes out with expensive Magnaflow exhaust tips on them.
They will be harvested for the bends as well as the tips will be cleaned up and reused.
Off a truck we pulled a nearly new looking Flowmaster and its whole new 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust piping. The tail pipes are $14 each and the muffler and its piping from the cat back was $35.

I want mine to look like that as well. The factory side exits rotted out on mine and I just have them hacked at the mufflers ahead of the axle. It's one of those to do things, and has been for years.

That is a great idea, I never thought of that. To be fair, there are probably 100x more “good” exhaust systems under junkyard cars here on the wet side of the Cascades than many parts of the country though.

I replaced the whole tailpipe section on my suburban for $14 and the pipe was nearly new.

Here is where I taught myself to weld when I did my 70 camaro. Unless someone is laying on their back hey will never know that it is your weld or a grease monkeys weld. Prebent pieces are cheap. Give it a shot!
