Precision Vent Window Program

my, I think, OEM seals on my 1990 v1500 suburban vent window look like this. The seal looks to have an outer flap that lays on the outside of the door and an inner flap that gets tucked inside the door.

Here’s a photo from a vent window seals instructional article in Street Trucks Magazine…I’ve seen them done both ways, but this seems to be the factory way. Tucked in

It all should go into the door, none of it should overlap to the outside.

maybe the seals are supposed to be tucked in, but the ones on my 1990 suburban sure seem to be designed to be laid on the outside with a separste inner flap. Maybe the seals changed over the years or something? or maybe I have some aftermarket seals...although they sure look like they could be 32 years old...

I agree with you and feel that it would seal up the door from water intrusion better. And frankly it also looks just as “right” as tucked in IMO. However, at least the seals I have, won’t allow the window to go far enough forward to seat fully and not have the screws “pulling” it in. Felt like I was going to strip the screws out on the front of the door even while pushing on the window. And ultimately I couldn’t get the window far enough forward to get the top mounting screw to line up.
Personally I’d rather have it overlapping like your pic.

Ill get a few more pictures today when we go work on it. I can tell you he washed it a week or so ago for first time and inside doors were dry FYI with vent window rubber tucked in. BTW on the Precision video that is out there it shows them leaving the rubber outside. I called and talked to Jeff Gau at Precision and he said it was a “rookie” mistake and that that video was deleted from their website but others are still circulating it. He said when they go to square shows they see it installed incorrectly quite a bit. FYI

Got my vents back from Precision wow!
Glad I used them. Repacked in the box until I am ready for them.

I 100% agree that looks right and should be that way.
Looking at it, the seal is a different style than the ones I got.
Mine wouldn’t work at the very top and bunched up around the bottom corner when holding the seal out, not tucked in.
