You are correct. BFG changed the edge of the sidewall a few years ago to add the "rock crawler" look to their classic all terrain. I prefer the older version but times do change.

I just got my new BFGs with the new sidewall edge. I liked the old design too but on the truck I prefer the new one.

Oh man I must've missed this one, it's been a few years since I've needed new tires. They do look different. Wow not really a fan. Was it pretty recent (last couple years)?

It's probably been 3 or 4 years now. They started phasing in the new shoulder design over the course of a year or so. From what I remember anyway.

I just ordered a set of general atx 33x12.50 and they are backordered 6mo according to discount tire. So they upgrayedd me to bfg for same price.
I just tried to order a set of Cooper STT Pro 32x11.50 and was told they were backordered indefinitely. So I ordered them in 33x12.50 instead, they should arrive sometime this upcoming week. I really wanted to stay a little smaller but it is a 4wd after all...

I don't really like it either and General has done the same thing to the grabber, but not to all sizes and some sizes are available in both flavors. The thing is the part of the tread pattern that hits the road has staying the same. Functionally I have to point out that having the tread on the side of the tire like that does make them stronger, both if you take it off road and snag a rock, but even on the road if you snag a curb. In the case of the Grabber the older version is the AT2 where as the newer version is the ATW

The A/Ts haven't changed much in the way of the looks in a LONG time, maybe minor tweaks but nothing majorly different to stand out that I've noticed and I've been running them on and off for about 20 years (or at least looking at them when considering my options, lately I've been going with the Generals because they're almost the exact same tire for less money but have had plenty of BFGs over the years). The M/Ts are the ones that have been making big changes over the years
It's that side profile and the side bites.ninlooked again and I see it. The old school ones had a very sharp corner that stood straight up and then downward to the sidewall.

I think I know where @WFO is going with his question… if you don’t rub now and don’t plan to do any off-roading beyond fire roads, the proportions are damn good now. That’s a nice looking truck.

I’m surprised those are stock height springs, there’s almost no rake.

@bthomas that is a fantastic looking truck, I am very jealous. But I am pretty sure the front is already about 2 inches above stock. The OE front leaf springs had a negative arch, yours look pretty straight. That usually means about 2 inches of lift.

I have a set of 33s on the way now and hope that my '87 looks half as good as your truck.

Hmm, might need 3” lift spring then… I measured the bottom of leaf perch to metal part of bumpstop mount at 8.5”

Yea those are lifted , truck looks very similar to my k10 on 33s and I have about 2" of lift.
