I don't know what happened, I was making sure the photo got attached when the message posted without any text. My question is how can I tell if the valve in the exhaust manifold is open or closed? The actuator arm doesn't appear to be connected to the valve and the actuator must be bad since I can't get vacuum to hold. In the photo, the valve is turned clockwise, down, and is easy to flip up, 90 degrees. I want the valve to be wide open at all times. Thanks for the help.

Can you tell from the picture if the valve is open or closed?

Looks like it is open. Is the pull anchor on the far side of the pivot shaft? (away From the vacuum can)

Sorry Wayne, I just saw your reply and thanks for responding. I guess I'm not getting email notifications.
I agree with you that the valve is open. If vac was applied, it would suck the rod in and pull the arm with it, thus closing the valve. I don't know why the rod is not connected, or even how it connects, to the valve arm.

It has a hole in the rod... it just slides over the pin that is sticking out and is retained with a standard jesus clip.
