So I am just curious if this is license locked to an email address or is it licensed to a serial number key? Just curious how it works for ownership transfer if it has been used, or has it not been used and registered. Seems like probably not since you still have the 2 credits. Thanks!

I have one as well, the credits you buy, and they are specific to a ecm/car. Older like my 1998 Z28 camero, use two credits to tune everything. My wife's 2018 GMC HD2500 takes four, as do all of the newer rigs. I like my HP tuner, though there is a learning curve. You can literally make a program and save it to your lap top, and then download it to the ECM. Note: you can really screw things up too....save the original program first. There is a huge forum online as well, almost certain to find a program that will work for most situations. The only problem that I have had with my HP tuner, was getting it back from my buddies....

No, not licensed locked. You only license lock when you tune an ECM. I registered the unit but never used it to tune an ECM. The credits go wherever the unit goes. When I sell it, I delete it from my account and the new owner has to register it in their name and the credits will show up.

So just for the sake of argument, lets say I am in the process of doing an LS swap on my K5. I already have a PCM that has had VATS removed and I have mucked about in the tune file using tunerpro. If I swapped to using the MPV12 and VCM would it require me to use the credits to continue tuning in VCM/HPTuners? I am just curious because HPTuners seems to be a lot more widely supported, more versatile, and also in general a lot easier to adjust and make changes. The price you are asking for the unit and credits is seeming really good considering it looks to include the protools. I'm just weighing options. Thanks for the feedback!

You would use the credits when you "write/flash" to the computer. You can read the TunerPro file, save it to the HP Tuner file, and continue to change your tune, and when you finally "write/flash" using HP Tuner, that's when you use the credits and that tune/ECM will be licensed to you.

By the way, what I have doesn't include the Pro features. I bought it to do just basic tunes for a stock LS Swap..
