Wiper Pulse Module #15598496

I've been cleaning out my garage and found this diagram that my dad made after he repaired my delay wiper module for my '84 C10. I figured it may come in handy to someone that wants to repair their faulty module.

what does the exterior of the module look like?

Nice find! With all the components labeled like that, you can just have new boards made and make a new one from scratch.

It hasn't been a priority for me to fix mine, I at least have the 'mist' position for a single pass (since I added intermittent wipers), and I live in the desert.
I hadn't opened one of the modules yet (I am an electronics nerd by trade, for anyone that hadn't noticed), and I had no idea there was was an Integrated Circuit in the module. GM had been fond of using a completely analog designs (everything on this board except the IC) on other car lines.



Even my Caprice with the concealed wipers, and ungodly complex wiper motor with intermittent, has a little analog board. Just found out this week even Cardone has given up on their CRAP rebuilds of those.



I had to look up the IC to see it's function. Can't remember after all these years, and only old guys like me would have ever remembered this old series of basic logic ICs.



Interestingly too, they used an SCR (acting like a higher power transistor) to trigger the wiper motor rather than tripping a relay (like my car, under the hood), that would have caused an audible 'click' in the interior (like my stupid Ford) with the start of each intermittent sweep.

I forgot to say, this is the '84 module which I believe is a different part number than the '85 and later. I'm not sure what's different about the '85 and later, I'm pretty sure I've swapped them around in the past and it worked.

Now to figure out which is the correct SCR.

Not sure if you'll know since it seems like this diagram was from a while ago but is resistor R9 really 100 ohm as it is labeled? The colors appear to be three black bands and one gold band which comes out to 0 ohm +-5% tolerance but this could also just be the washed out colors of the picture. This is the resistor burned out on my pulse module and I can no longer read the bands on mine.

I'll go out on a limb and say 100 is correct. I doubt my dad would have the picture and the schematic both mislabeled, but I can ask him to be sure. He still has the original picture in his files, so the colors won't be washed out.

Well I THINK I may have found it. It's possibly an IRFZ44N.

I'm going to order one and see what happens.

That's good to know! So this should cover all the way through '91. And the G-vans too.
