Electric choke question

Hey yall, both me and my buddies electric chokes on our k10 and c10 were working great until we both took our carbs off (holley 4160) and when we but them back on we both have the following problem. I go to start the truck and it starts fine and the high idle works and the choke opens about 75 and stays. it doesn't completely open until you get on the throttle. Then when I go to drive it it goes just fine but when I stop it is still at partial high idle on the first 2 steps of the cam. Usually I can get it to go down if I blip the throttle but sometimes it just droppes to the first step of the cam. Don't really know what to do. Back the fast idle screw down? new choke cap and spring????

You didn’t hook the power wire back up? Did you only take the carb off or did you do more? Stock the power wire is run through the oil pressure switch so it won’t send power to choke coil with motor not running. Did you disturb any of that. Start the truck and check for 12 volts going to choke terminal. Your answer will be there.

Thanks for the reply Ben. I checked it and I do have 12 volt reading. it is wired to the 12 volt ignition wire at the distributer.

Choke pull off ? Somehow binding linkages? Did you rotate the choke cap unwittingly ? Do you have constant 12v readings idle/load ? You can test it if it's voltage related: check if there is anything binding by hand, hook up a wire from battery + and see if it opens fully, engine can be off for this.

On some carburetors you also need a ground wire for the choke, since the gasket insulates it from the vehicle. Do you have both power and ground?
