Deep desert fun

Just thought I would throw out some pic's of our ghost town and mine exploring about a week ago. There is some really fun off roading to get to some of these locations.

You have to be careful out here, there are some unwanted critters around that can wreck your day. I reached in above this rock to see if it was loose and then I walked around it to go into the mine and saw this dude.

Thanks everybody, glad you enjoyed the pic's, there is a lot to see from the past in the middle of nowhere. The mine, (in the pic) with the concrete was opened in 1918 and was booming during world war two mining tungsten for the military to use for bullet's.

Anyway, the nevada dessert has lots of history, no people, and is really fun to explore. That's why I built this k5, good for miles of highway driving and locked and loaded for off road use as well. On this trip my wife followed me in the k5 for 180 miles, one way, (I was driving our motorhome), so I think she has put more miles on the k5 than me. The k5, (with 38's and 9 inches of lift), really drive's almost like stock down the highway but it took a lot of trial and error to get it that way.

Some great pics there. Last year when I was driving back and forth to Arizona I was often looking at all the trails that just head out into the desert and wish I had my truck instead of a rental car.

Man!! Those are some great pics. A DANG DIAMOND BACK!!! And a fat one to!! Was that a dry lake bed in some of the first pics? One of the famous one's? When I lived in Colorado my wife and I did some old gold mine exploring. Some would have old signs at the entrance, "Warning enter at your own risk. Cave In's a danger!" Yeah great! Get your butt in there and cough and you're in there forever! It would be interesting to take a metal detector into some of them. Maybe you'd be lucky and find some gold!
That's in Nevada? And yeah, I like you k5. I'm more interested in where you went and secondly what you had to get there. I have to admit the idea of four wheeling was very appealing to me when I was young but couldn't ever afford it. It's replacing the stuff you tore up that eats you up. Besides, I never knew anyone who went off roading. They were all hot rodders and drag racers.

Great Pics and of the K5 too. I don't like killing snakes, but he's one that I normally would. But, being he's way out there in his own element and not in a highly occupied area where he could hurt someone I'd have probably left him alone. I only kill the venomous snake and diamond back water snakes around our ponds due to they eat to many fish and there are way to many of them and need thinned out not to mention very brave unlike most snakes that'll crawl away, these diamond back water snakes will flat crawl up to you an eat a fish or frog outta your hand.
