Hello - I want to add the auxiliary tank on the passenger side of my 1984 K30 diesel, so I need to source the tank and related brackets and straps. While I am at it I want to go ahead and replace the original tank which is in pretty bad shape.

Questions - Are there any alternatives to simply buying reproduction tanks from Summit, Jegs, etc.? Does anybody offer higher quality, maybe Made in USA tanks? Does anybody offer stronger composite tanks? Higher capacity?

Thanks in advance for opinions.

Just found this. Anyone had any experience with these polyethylene tanks?

Specter or Dorman. Rock auto or AutoZone can get them.

I ordered mine from Orielly’s. I am pretty pleased with it.

OK I got two new fuel tanks from Spectra in Canada. Bought them through Kentucky Speed Shop for $96 apiece. Also bought the replacement Spectra straps, however I don't know how to fasten the straps to the brackets. There are three OEM rivets holding the original straps onto the brackets. Does anybody know how to replace these rivets? Is there another way to attach the straps? It's got to be strong, for sure. Any help will be appreciated.

^ You can bolt them in. If the bolt heads are too tall, just grind them down.
Buck rivets would be perfect though if you were worried about it looking original.

I ground the rivets out and used a short #8 (ish) bolt with nylock nuts.

I did some research and discovered that those rivets are standard "solid rivets" and that there is a process for reinstalling new rivets. I have ordered the new solid rivets from McMaster Carr and a bucking bar and rivet bit for my air hammer from Eastwood's. As soon as these arrive I will go through the process and post the results here.
