Mounted up the plate and drew on the holes. Two are supposed to be 2” openings and two are 1 1/8.
After drilling the two inch hole, I **** my pants. It’s way too large. I went back and forth with it saying but that’s what the book says and drilled it any way. I shouldn’t have. The next one I drilled 1 1/2”
The other two I trusted for the 1 1/8 it looks ok to me.

For the two mounting holes that the evaporator mounts to I drilled and tapped them for a 1/4-20
I went inside the cab and lined up the bolt to the top evap bolt I could see
Propped the evap up on some tools went back inside and ran the bolts in.
This allowed me to do it myself.

I used this little pick to make sure everything was lined up on the bottom bolt. Now let’s talk about this inner bracket.
Instructions say to pre drill a 3/16 then run the provided bolts through.
That’s a bitch my drill would not fit up there with a bit in it. Instead I opted for the self tapper/ driller whatever you wanna caller.
Made it much quicker.

Also I highly recommend not having this bracket on when lifting the evap into place and REMOVING the two bolts ( pass side only) for the dash attaching it to the cab so you can roll the metal dash up and out of the way a lil bit.

Put the hoses on the defrost vents then dropped em down through and modified the cross vent. I don’t plan on using the upper driver side vent so I blocked it off the evap. I prefer the shelf I have there. I’m sure it’ll be cold enough when the time comes.

Does anyone know of a company that sells grilles for the defrost vents?
Any custom one out there? I’m thinking of just laying some screen under the dash on top of the vent.

Would be a good idea, what did you find when you pulled the old ones? My dad like Certs, I found 2 rolls of them a old lighter and a couple of 22 shells when I tore mine down.

Haha I removed the all the guts over a year ago when I dynamat the interior. Back when I did it then I found some change and a thermometer.. I remember my dad used to keep it on the dash. It was originally a NON ac truck. I’m sure he did it to remind himself how much he wanted AC.

When I had an aftermarket A/C installed on my '80 3+3 in the 90's, the shop sliced the box at the yellow line, then slid it inward and rivetted the sides. Photo 2 is an A/C box. I'm sure that small piece you have would be used to replace the right side of the A/C style box.

That makes more sense.
My fault then, as is most issues LOL. I used all oem junkyard pets for the vents and figured I’d order the W factory AC kit since I didn’t want the Vents. And there we see it biting me in the ass. I’ll probably Rivet it in as yours was.

Good news is I found my “vents”
They’re some leftover gutter grates I used for a rodent problem on a buddy’s house.
Probably could have left em aluminum for some contrast but I hit em with some paint.
