Hello, I am very glad I found this site and it seems pretty busy. Recently bought a 1990 GMC 1 ton crew cab dually. Look forward to educating myself through this forum as I set off to build it. Will post pics of current, not on the road, status soon. In the meantime I have been annoyed that while searching for parts for square bodies is no issue, finding things that say they fit my year is. Is there that much of a different between 87 and the 90 version of my truck? Can I just search for parts for a say 80-87 model of my truck? Any info is welcome thank you.

Welcome from the land of rust!

yeah the problem is that in '88 the C/K line (regular pickups) switched over to the new GMT400 platform while the Suburban, K5 Blazer, and crew cab trucks stayed as squarebodies for another few years and got the R/V naming scheme. Technically '87 was the first year of R/V and the first year of TBI and associated changes.

What kind of parts you looking for? As far as I know *most* things are the same on '87 as they were '90. Mainly a few cosmetic and interior changes, but I'm sure there were a few electronic changes and maybe even a couple specific mechanical changes too. Overall you should have good luck using '87 parts but can't just blindly take my word for it, there's a lot of guys here who know a lot more of the specifics than I do.

Oh yeah and you're about to get hounded for those pics by some of the other guys soon, so get posting!

Basically I believe my truck does have FI which is different then earlier models with a 454 in it, I believe. Not totally sure. I want to rewire the whole truck, I am finding a lot of completely chassis and engine harnesses but where my year is that odd one, none say specifically it is for my truck. Has left me sad. I come from a import background, hondas and rotarys specifically, I am used to having to have this and that and this and that for electronics to all match up. I am not sure the low amount of products I am finding, means it is just a lot more simple? Ultimate goal is a 6bt in this. Here are some pics. (had to build some ramps, ramps are very expensive.)

That's a whole lotta truck right there! looks good too :waytogo:

A wire harness is gonna be one of those weird ones if that's what you're looking for. TBI (throttle body fuel injection) started in '87, was standard on small blocks though I believe it was an option on big blocks and many were still carbureted like the older trucks. So I would guess anything that says 73-87 is probably different than what you have. Lol I was hoping you were gonna say you needed body panels or an axle or some ****.
