I have decided to retain the bench seat in my 85. However, I need to upgrade it and make it more comfortable.

I have heard that the 88-98 seats are a little thinner and offer more leg room.

I'm looking for (locally) a 88-98 seat that I can have reupholstered. I want the seat to have better back and side support so new foam will be required. I also want it done in leather. Cost is not a factor.

Alternately, looking at the TMI website they make seats like what I'm looking for. The 73-87 and 88-98 seats have the same part number so obviously only the brackets are different. However, they do recline which may help the comfort issue. My current seat just makes me feel like I'm sitting against a wall.

Has anyone used or have a TMI bench seat? Is it worth the money (quality, comfort, durability, etc.). They look good, but that doesn't say much.

I have recently installed the tmi seats in my 83 c10 they are very nice quality and comfortable to me. Of course the price is a little bit high but I couldn’t find anything else that would be a direct fit into my truck.

I'd hate to be the person (or persons) that has to ride in the middle of the TMI seat.

I've always found the '88-'94 seats to be super comfortable. Not really that supportive in corners, but just comfortable in general. The bench seats used in the '89-'91 Suburbans feel very much like an '88-'94 truck seat, but they have the benefit of bolting right into a squarebody. However, you would have to convert it to tilt forward.

I'm going to revive this thread if it's ok. I'm looking at getting this TMI seat for my 85 K10 and was wondering if my original bracket would fit it.

I don't think so unless you modify it. That's based on watching an episode of Gearz where Stacey David installed one of these in a squarebody. He chose to use the bracket that they sell with it. Of course that's more $$ but makes it a bolt in experience.

Its probably worth noting that a second row seat from a tahoe/suburban from about 92-on is the exact same width as the stock bench seat and is not as tall as the original bench seats. The only issue is fabricating a frame that fits them onto the stock mounting brackets. There are a few threads on various sights about making the GMT-400 and GMT-800 seats fit.
